Dang

Sorry to hear.

Mine works perfectly in Guild Wars on my 50" Plasma.

I'm sure the the display makes all the difference

The 100GB 5,400 rpm drives are down in price a bit, a Samsung one in particular is a good price but can't seem to find any info on it - anyone heard about Samsung drives? The hard drive is the only part I haven't replaced, I need a new one anyway and if it helps the stuttering that would be good!

You guys are dumb, its not the machine's fault that the game is requiring more of it.

No game is gunna run 100% perfect 100% of the time.

Blame the software, not the machine.

HL2 is supposed to run at the max settings, so i am sorry to say this but you are wrong.

the stuttering happens even at the lowest video configs.

so please next time think before you post.

6635 in 3DMark05 with stock Dell drivers... (Is it worth improving with BIOS flash?)
Trackmania Nations runs perfect, it didn't before.
Installing Halo, BF2 and UT2004 now.

if someone can fix this god damn issue ill make sure he gets a god damn 6 pack of beer ;P

If you attached an external hard drive and ran games off it we could see if the hardrive is the cause of stuttering. Otherwise its hard to pin point exactley whats wrong.

Halo runs flawless also, just got that up and running. I run a 250GB external drive, but I only install ISO's off of it onto the laptop's internal, and use a crack/original disk after that.

I'm officially declaring this FIXED for now, but I'm gonna post some results after I update to the Xtreme G drivers also.

A huge problem that most find is they don't do a complete reinstall and delete all partitions. Thats what I done and fixed mine I didnt even keep the diognostic partition I got rid of all the dell garbage and started from scratch. Then instal the the notebook software then chipset then your basic and main drivers.

Also it takes a little time but I defrag inbetween all my programs and games instals
I had the same issues until I done a compleat reinstal and I choose not the quick method also.

Not sure if it would - I think Windows will still copy data to the main hard drive.

I disabled acoustic management on my hard drive, made no difference whatsoever for me.

hahah omg.. fixed!

Go use this util, http://samsung.schwippi.de/files/nhc_1.9_beta03.zip and change the HDD Advanced power management to "High performance 254".. mine was set at 128, the middle setting... I changed it and immediately the problem went away.....

I will be sure to tell Dell about this, because they are replacing my machine, but holy shittt.. now I can see the pure power of the M170.. I have HL2 maxed, and AA and the AF on.. sooo smooth and pretty.

hope this helps everyone!!!

What's the downside of using it?

well, it could cut a min or two off your battery when not plugged in because the HDD will be running at full speed performance..

there really isnt a downside.. most of the stuff is safe to fool with... just dont change something u dont understand.. like changing cpu core voltage could produce less than desirable results if your not sure what to do...
