I'm officially declaring this FIXED for now, but I'm gonna post some results after I update to the Xtreme G drivers also.
So, whats my suggestion helpful? Reformatting and loading your machine?

Thanks PEOPLE!

From what I gather, that program simply stops the drive from spinning down when it's idle. I don't see how that helps out while playing something like CS:S which constantly loads stuff off the HD. Then again ,maybe I'm misunderstanding it

Would I have to leave notebook hardware control running in order to keep the hard disk running at max performance?

I run BF2 with all setting set at Utra High with 4xAA and it seems to run much smoother than it ever has.

Is that cause of using Notebook Hardware Control?

I think on some systems, the default setting is "Dont spin down".. this means its keeps the HDD spinning all the time, however its still not running at its higher rate.. I dont know why some have this and some dont have this problem..but it does work -- i spent 2 weeks ruling everything else out.. and a simple dropdown fixed it. its pretty stupid that Dell doesnt catch these things before they declare this machine a high-end laptop..

I remember when I first got my I9300, I had buyers remorse after loading up WoW. My Radeon 8500 128MB Card played it smoother. After realizing it was not possible that my computer video/cpu/memory had anything to do with it, I searched these forums.

After doing the HD Power mode switch, my problems went away

so its a known issue for almost ALL Dell laptops

It's pretty easy to fix though

For those of you with the Hitachi hard drives, download the Feature Tool (v.2.00) and create a boot CD with it. From there you can change or turn off the Acoustic Management for better performance. Download here:

Have you tried running settings on Ultra High? It's not a regular option on the console but can be enabled in the folders, after adjusting the folder setting it reads Ultra High in the Video console.
To turn ultra high on do this:

In C:\My Documents\Battlefield 2 Demo\Profiles\0001 (path and profile number may vary depend on installation and accounts)

edit the file named video.con with notepad, change the settings to:

VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 4
VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 4
VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 4
VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 4
VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 4
VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 4
VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 4
VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 4
VideoSettings.setResolution 1024x768@85Hz
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing Off
VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 3

only change where the '4' is if its like lower only for those ones that have 4 leave everythin else the same.

It looks better to me but some say they see no improvement.

No, I've been playing for a couple weeks and nothing yet, I only play ranked servers.

Awesome. Isn't it risky to let the HDD spin at full speed all the time? Wear and tear... temps????

I use the feature mainly when I play games, Temps are fine.
If you only enable max settings when gaming so I don't think your going to see increased wear on the hard drive and there really isn't a reason to do it if you surfing the web, watching a movie ect....
