On the top of the drive towards the front, there should be a code like ND-6650A which is the old drives that seem to be the problem. I can take a pic if you still can't find it. Curious to see if they sent you the 6750.

Noooo!!! I replaced my single optical drive a few minutes ago and the Audio DJ still doesnt work!!!! Its probably not a problem of the drive itself but of the audio dj.

any suggestions on what I should do next?
I'm definitely calling TS tomorrow.

I think they will have to send you a 6750 drive maybe to fix the compatability problem. That is my take of the situation from what I have been told by the tech dept. My drives (the 6750's) will be here sometime tuesday so I hope to be able to post that it fixed the issue. Guess we'll see. Sorry to hear about your troubles still blizard. I would call and mention the 6750 drive and see what they tell you.

It seems to be. Several on these boards have reported the same thing. The people I see with the same problem all got their computers around the same time. Alienware knows of the problem and I would guess that computers being shipped now would have the newer drives and not get this issue. At least this isn't a major problem by any means. It's not something that I use but just the fact that is an advertised feature on an expensive item, I want it fixed. I have my fingers crossed that Tuesday my issue will be resolved.

Same kinda thinking here. I think my problem isnt just with the optical drive, its the Audio DJ itself. Im going to ask them to take my rig back and fix it....before my warranty runs out.

I dont wanna take any chances waiting for the other optical drive model cuz that may take a while. And if I send it in, they may even try putting in the new drive model anyways. Im going to call in about an hour.

Fingers crossed too!

My Audio DJ doesn't work either.

Sorry the new drive didn't take care of the problem for you blizard. If your warranty is about up I would say sending it in now would be a good idea. My drives are here in town but it said back to sort facility not due for delivery yet. I might see if I can go pick them up tonight. Small town here and you only get about 10 to 15 minute window to pick up items in person. I'll run up there and see what happens. If you do send it in keep us posted on how it goes. Good luck getting it fixed. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Well I called TS and the rep (couldnt catch his name because he talked pretty fast) says the 6650A is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE AUDIO DJ. So I'm going to be sent the newer model drive.

And I asked about sending it in and the issue of the warranty expiring but he said that even when the warranty expires, this problem will still be covered by warranty because it is an ongoing issue since the warranty period! Service is good

Help!

Well I went down to pick up the package. Get home open it up and low and behold the new 6750 drive. Notice that I said drive, not drives!!! In the package was to be two to replace the two original ones in my system. Talked to ts again for an hour and they are still the best in my mind. Came to the conclusion there isn't much that they can do to help me out with the fact that only one drive came in the package (call logged and sent to management). I was told that they can't send one without a hold being put on my credit card. Mind you there is already 3 drives on hold. One will be back there on Wednesday so one hold is off. Now I have one new drive with 2 on hold. If I send back both of mine that leaves me with no hold but an empty hole where one should be from my original order. Only thing I can do is call and talk to cs, which is not open at this time. Not sure what to do at this time. Anyone ever had anything like this happen, and to what end did you take to get it worked out. I thought it was odd that the box weighed the same 1 pound as the first single drive that was shipped. Now this has turned from a tech support problem into an entirely different monster all together. I have not and will not test the drive till this gets taken care of. Good luck blizard, as I truly believe this new drive will fix the problem. I so hope you have better luck than me at this point. Guess I'll call cs tomorrow and drop an IM to AlienRichard right now as well. God this sucks. I so looked forward to this being the end of all my problems. On a lighter note, I still love the machine, it's been working perfect.

Thanks man. I am just a little bit worried at the moment. At least my fingers are still crossed. This just isn't right. I do still think this will get worked out but dam, my first horror story (wasn't looking forward to ever having one).

It works!

Well I can confirm that the new drives (6750) do fix the audio dj problem. Works like a charm. And I want to thank AlienRichard for his help with the missing drive situation I was in. In less than 24 hours he responded and has taken care of the situation. Now how is that for customer service. I can't believe the level of service that I have received from Richard and all of Alienware. I think I might have to readjust my overall rating in my review as once my other drive gets here this thing will be just about perfect.

Audio DJ Resolved

Just an update. Got my other drive today from AlienRichard (thanks man). Seems like this was a horror story that wasn't. He did what he said he would, and can't thank him enough (and fast). I can say now that my laptop works perfect, including the audio dj with both drives (6750's). Couldn't be happier with my decision to go with Alienware for my laptop, and will most likely do business with them again in a couple years (hopping this one will last for 2-3 years). Kudos to the

Woohoo! Thats great!
An update on my situation:
My old drive arrived at AW on 2/17 and I'm still waiting for emails or some form of confirmation on the new drive being sent out.
