Which one do I get? I can get both for about the same price 1500. (Yes I can get dell to build me a 9300 with the 7800 because i have been having some trouble with them).

I want the best performance for games. Any input is appriciated.

Thanks

I told the sales department that I have been through hell and back with dell and that I would stop purchasing Dell products for my company. (Don't realy have one). I said I wanted a free upgrade to the 7800 im my 9300 or i'm done. They priced out a unit with the 7800 in it. You have to really sound pissed or it won't work.

I have my doubts that they are going to actually send you a 9300 with 7800 in it as it was never an available option for that model. Chances are it will get flagged and rejected or perhaps they will send you a 9400 with the 7800.

Yeah that's what I thought as well. But now that I have a contact and a quote they can't back down on the deal.

It will be interesting to see what they send you - let us know how it pans out - and best of luck!

Should I go with the 9300 as suggested or will the 9400 be faster. If I go with the 9400 for the same price I have to downgrade to the 1.86 processor. p.s more on the above. Perhaps the new chipset is backwards compatible with the M processor family and Dell no longer uses the old platform to save money, that would allow for what they said. Just an idea.

Games that are not yet optimized for multiple cores will probably be slightly faster on the single core processor that is clocked higher than the core dual. However you are not talking a big difference here. And once games are optimized for dual cores then the core dual configuration will pull ahead. However the bigger question when it comes to games is the GPU. Most games are GPU limited so a slight difference in CPU speed does not generally have a big impact. If all other components were equal - personally I would go with with a slighly lower clock speed core dual configuration over a slightly faster P-M. However what it may boil down to is that the i9300 will come with a lesser grahics card i.e (a 6800 or even worse an x300) so you are probably better off with the i9400 and the 7800.
