Ktta!!!!!!
the 1039 is on msi's site, now! eta early march.
It's been up there for a while

Unleaded, If I got the 1039 and then a month later the 1038 came out and it was like my dream system and I didn't even open up the 1039 yet could I do an exchange?
in other words, whats your exchange policy?
also do you do the 5% college student discount policy too?
Prolly not, and no

Also, as an FYI, I don't believe Xmeld still offers a 5% student discount, however, you'd have to verify that with CoffeeShark.
hey, do you guys ever take pre-orders on systems if they are gonna come out in a month or two?
Fraid not. I've never been fond of that practice, tbh. When I have a firm delivery date and I know units will be available on X date, I will start taking orders a reasonable Y days ahead of that.
ok so what r u talking about x, y ? like 2 weeks ahead or 30 days ahead? How far before you'll do preorder???
Only so far in advance that I feel I can deliver on my goals for reasonable turnaround from order date to ship date...that means like ABSOLUTE max, prolly 5 business days.

I think you guys started taking pre-order about a week (7days) ahead of the 1036 if I remeber correctly, but I could be wrong
post #91 of 122
We might have posted specs but I don't believe we started taking any pre-orders further out than 5 business days before I felt confident that we would have barebones units in our hands.
Unleaded...coffee...anyone...any new newz on the replacement for the 1036?

cost?

Any idea on cost? My selections have come down to the Asus z92j and the 1039. I will be getting one or the other regardless and I figured it would be priced fairly similar to the 1029 (and not 2500 like the Acer 8204) but I am still curious.
My best guess would be between $900 - $1000 for the barebones at a reseller who offers assembly (probably on the lower side of that range I would think). This would be pure speculation however.

As for the MS-1036s replacement, we have been asked not to further discuss any roadmap information.

I would venture that it will be more expensive a base platform than the 1029, and unleaded's guesses are probably pretty accurate.

I'm sure you are probably right.
hmmmm asked to not further discuss, well I interpret that as "if we start talking we quickly spoil the sales of last years model". Don't get me wrong if i was in the same position (selling computers) I'd do the same thing. Well, the 1036 replacement might be a bit closer than I thought!!!!
GOODIE GOODIE GOODIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hardly. The roadmap is confidential and, more likely, the reason we have been asked not to speak to it further is related to competition. Beyond that, roadmaps are subject to change and I'm sure MSI does not wish for models which have not yet been solidified to be released publicly until final specifications are firm.
well, either its:
scenario #1: they are changing something in the specifications to make them "firm"
scenario #2: release is soon, but sellers gotta clear out last years models (really they've only had em for a few months)...
either way I hope for some news sometime in march...

Actually, there are many more scenarios than that. Specifications are definitely not hard and fast, release dates move due to manufacturing capabilities and timelines, management decisions change on when to release due to both inside and outside factors, dependence on outside companies for various interior parts (you all know how fun it is to rely on ati or nvidia to have enough parts in the supply chain), not to mention competition as Unleaded said and the desire not to kill sales of current models.
