Drug companies will only do research if they have a good chance of making a healthy profit. If the US went down the socialized road I think it would spell doom. We do need to address major problems with our health system like the requirement that hospitals treat people regardless of ability to pay. That is crazy. Illegals should not be able to get free healthcare. I say slap a bandage on them and deport them immediately.
Health insurance is insanely expensive and I don't know how to address it. I pay enough each month for our clinic medical insurance to buy a new ALX every month. There is something wrong with that picture.

Your correct somewhat....but medical care is a necessity of life and studies have proven over and over that preventative medicine is much better than the secondary approach....I do not like the "socialized" approach either...I do not like anything the Govt regulates as they have proven over and over they are very poor at this but, what are the alternatives....one of the reasons I am taking some time off is to think about the fact that just to "practice" my profession...medicine, I must pay $38,600 per year in Mal-Practice insurance. Ohio is one of the worst states as the Ohio legisture has yet to cap settlement payments thus the high cost, and I have to pay that by Jan 5, every year, in full ,before the insurance goes into effect...it only has a 2 million dollar cap, and in this day and time, that is not near enough...may of my fellow collegues have moved from Ohio to states with caps such as Ill and NY and Pa.....something I am also considering strongly and ...no, I have never been sued or even named in a suit. I am sure your wife has some interesting ideas about this also DB, as you know, she pays mal-practice insurance also..or some type of professional liability....and removing your name from anything you own does not protect you any longer...the new laws that the feds passed 2 yrs ago saw to that...and you wonder why I am so anti republican.....things were much better when Bill was in officce, the last president changed many of the benifits doctors had against large, idiotic settlements by NOT capping this action...now, Canada has just as good, if not better, health care in many areas than do we....the UK is leaps and bounds ahead of the US in drug developement and drugs allowed for terminal illness....why, the FDA is a political organization and its decisions are based upon lobbyist pressure, and drug company contributations to political parties....until this stops, the US quality of health care will continue to decline....and it is declining.....
and DB, no hospital will refuse care to anyone based upon ability to pay...that is not saying illegals can get cosmetic surgery free, it is saying that energency care, especially, is the right of everyone regardless of their ability to pay...I write off tens of thouslands of dollars yearly because of this issue, and I do not really care as I did not entirely go into medicine for the money...it was a big incentive, I admit but I can donate my time just as people do to other worth while causes
