There was nothing stopping Bush from getting a warrant for his wiretap program. The FISA court is manned 24/7, and they have a special court in the Justice department specifically to make sure if any federal agency needs a warrant, they can get one almost instantly.
FISA law also allows you to apply for a warrant after the fact, for a 72 hour period.
Fact of the matter is that in the history of the FISA courts, no president before Bush has ever had a warrant request denied. Warrants are necessary, even according to Bush a month ago (now his story has changed), as it is a vital part of the checks and balances of our system.
Bush is now acting like a rogue dictator by going around the court, and ordering wiretaps on American citizens without judicial oversight.
Not only is this an apparent violation of the constitution, it's a direct violation of specific legislation prohibiting the president from spying on citizens without warrants.
As more comes out about this wiretapping, we learn he's been monitoring vegan groups, and Quakers??? You think they're terrorists?
Bush violated the constitution. There should be an independent investigation, and follow up charges if warranted.
Republicans, or conservatives are supposed to be for smaller government, and keeping the government out of our personal lives. This ridiculous support for constitutional violation is not a conservative, nor an American ideal.
You must like being lied to, and really be afraid if you think Bush is going to protect you from anything. He's mismanaged the war, and made our world a much more dangerous place.Terrorist attacks have skyrocketed since Bush invaded Iraq.
