You'd think NY has all possible taxes imposed. Yet I have never paid a single dollar for online transactions. I live near NYC btw.

ABS has a warehouse in NJ, TN and CA. That is why those states are hit w/ sales tax.
Total B.S., since all of the systems are assembled in CA.. i am in NJ and had to pay sales tax... Lame...

Yeah, Im guessing that newegg.com does have a warehouse here in jersey too. I had to pay sales tax on a keyboard because my other one stopped working and it still shipped from CA. Which was quite strange..but oh well, still got it rather quickly. Just found out today that I won this super bowl pool so now I'm $150 closer to getting my Zforce 2

You know what's a good trick to try? I ordered a i8600, was unsatisfied w/ it, and returned it on the 29th day (of the 30-day return policy). I got a full refund off my credit card around 15 business days later.

The kicker is that I also sent in my $200 Dell rebate around 10 days after I got the machine. And they processed it! It may have taken 6 weeks, but b/c of the disjoint depts. that Dell puts sales/returns and rebates and the fact that Dell allows returns within 30 days PLUS their extremely slow return process, I actually cashed my rebate for $200 before I got my refund on my card. =) Basically, up $200 w/ no real drawbacks or risks other than a sour taste in my mouth for Dell.

Datheron, what you did is not uncommon. You have stumbled upon a flaw in the rebates system. Rebates are processed by 3rd party companies such as Young America. For those rebates that does not require an original UPC barcode, you can cash those checks even after you returned your product. However, for this reason many manufacturers are requiring an original UPC with the rebate request, making it impossible to return the product after the rebate is sent in.

2 quick questions about this model:

1. Aopen's site says the 1557G has (The typo on Radeon is them, not me)
"Graphics ATI M10 Radion 9600 (AGP 8x, Support DirectX9)
Intel Dynamic Video Memory Technology"
Does the video card share the system memory?

2. Is there a difference between the 1557G and 1557GL? I have a quote for a 1557GL with Radeon 9600.

Thanks
I'm not sure about that, I saw that as well today on AOpen's site and I got a little confused. But the Radeon 9600 is a totally separate component. I think that they are just saying that it has the capabillity to have either the integrated graphics or the separate M10. But I wouldn't quote me on that or anything.

Not sure what the difference between the two is, perhaps the separate / integrated graphics. Maybe someone else has a little bit more explanation / information?

I believe:

1557G -> xga

1557GL -> sxga+

I don't think there's any other differences. other specs are the same. There's also a 1557A around w/SPDIF audio and no lame cd controls... anyways.. do a search, it was discussed briefly before.

Guys, if you check out internetishop.com, you will see they sell the 1557 with integrated graphics OR the 64mb M10. You have to be careful and check your specs because the laptop can come with either.

devast, I think there are more that the 1557G and 1557GL, in fact deo123 appears to have a 1557GLS. Not sure what the differences are at this point.

Easy way to check would be to see what Widnows says your system memory is. If it's 64MB lower than the actual amount it should be, then the answer is there.

I think anyone interested should call in orders anyway, They gave me a student discount when I ordered.... I'm not even a student, but they didn't ask me that part

I e-mailed their sales department and eddie maldonado told me they don't offer any student discounts

call in again and ask to speak to marco.. pretend you never called before... pretend this is one of the laptops your looking at alongside the gateway 505xl and dell 8600... listen for a while....seem hesitant about purchasing.... THEN ASK ABOUT STUDENT DISCOUNT!... write me back and let me know.... good luck.

btw.... I did the same with gateway and got a great price for 505xl before I cancelled the order. Tried it with dell but they basically didn't care if they got my business or not, plus I really didn't want they're laptop anyway... just was curious what price I'd get.

i just called in today about the f2 and the wireless b/g cards and the guy (i think it was marco?) said they wouldn't get those into until the end of the month ...and i also asked about the student discount, but he said they don't offter any? so it makes me wonder if this discount is just by person basis or what?.. also, he said it looked like the 1 gig ram upgrades were going to be a permanant thing. lets hope so cause i really want my f2!
Hmmmm.....I called and ordered a F2 yesterday, and my guy said the B/G cards would be in today. I'm going to be quite upset if "today" turns into "end of the month"
well... sorry to hear the student discount isn't happening anymore... maybe they're selling enough F2s that they're not really hungry for a sale these days... Anyway, they should have the b/g card because I have one and I'm getting mine swapped out with another one because of the button issue in my review and I got the fedex number today. They actually threw in 2 games for my trouble. Let you guys know Friday...

maybe I'm just lucky? or a real pain in the *ss on the phone.

Devast,

Has the button issue with the b/g card been resolved ?

whoops...don't mean to confuse, I was talking about the left mouse button issue, mine was slightly flimsy feeling compared to the right one so they're sending me another laptop to swap with. I don't think the wireless button with g cards has been resolved, but will definately find out friday if there is any changes to the laptops they are shipping now.

Devast,

Im really curious as to how the screen looks (1400 x 1050 right?) Sxga.. Do you know if there is anything like at a bestbuy or a circuit city that has the same resolution.

Im afraid that the text is going to be too small for me?

edd0e,

i didnt ask him specifically about the enGenius b/g or intel 2200 cards. i just asked if they had the b/g cards in stock since he told me all they had were the b cards at the time. however, im guessing he was probably referring to the intel cards because some members said ABS was going to have the engenius cards in stock today, which explains the update on their site. hMm..should i go ahead and order it with the enGenius b/g or wait for the intel 2200?
