Hi all,

As you might be aware, Rock Direct's 'Rock Xtreme CT' is another Clevo m570a clone.

This offer amazing support on their site:
http://www.mobile-support.net

They first offered the BETA BIOS with Fn+F1 & Fn&F2 funtion and now also have a new BIOS update available.

Issue with DVD playback on battery

Some customers have experienced audio stuttering and picture flicker during DVD playback on this model while running on battery power. If you experience this issue please download the following BIOS update and follow the instructions within the Read Me text file in order to update your BIOS and software to allow for trouble free DVD playback on battery power.

They offer an .iso file which you can burn on a CD and than boot from the CD. They also offer a .txt file that explain the procedure.

There is a (double) BIOS update, Nvidia BIOS update and a Cineplayer update!

I just did the BIOS and Cineplayer as I have an ATI GPU. I think the BIOS update also includes the Fn+F1 & Fn&F2 funtions. (But am not sure as I already had the BETA BIOS on my lappy)
I never noticed the audio stuttering and picture flicker but did the updates just 2b sure.

Did you notice any difference/improvement with the new BIOS?

You know, when it comes to BIOS, the mote "Don't fix what isn't broken" is a more secure approach.

I did not notice anything. But never play DVD's on my m570a.

I always update my BIOS when updates are available because you never know where you can run into in the future and they don't supply an update for nothing.

Some kind of optimisation when on batteries has been probably been implemented.
I think it has someting to do with the connections between the DVD player, chipset, processor en videocard.
Perhaps they set the energysetting a little less agressive.

hmmm, this fit the "this shit is broke" paradigm.

Update:

On http://www.rockforum.co.uk they discuss the Xtreme CT.
One owner (with 7800GTX) did benchmarks running on battery and did these findings:

3dmark03
Was 1834 - Now 2004

3dmark05
Was 1346 - Now 1611

3dmark06
Was 842 - Now 976

Nice to see you are quoting me there.

The beta bios you mentioned in your original bios was actually already being used bu Sager on their 5720's weeks before it was available to Rock owners.

I have had the new bios for some time on my Rock XCT now and have always had mine o/c by 6% both before and after this update, still works fine for me.

The new bios and gpu bios increase mobile performance, as you can see in my figures posted by klaash, but make little difference at all when using mains power.
