My Sager RMA Review

I RMA'd my 5680 last week for several reasons.

First off a game that had been working perfectly had suddenly stopped. My computer was dumping all my physical memory and rebooting or kicking me back to windows when I joined a server. The problem then spread to other games.

I decided to troubleshoot the problem myself, tried fresh installs of the game, driver rollbacks, reformats, and eventually took off my keyboard to test the ram sticks.

Ram turned out to be fine, in the process of putting my keyboard back on, I dropped a screw in the MBoard area.

DOH

Once RMA'd,A technician kept in contact with me by tele, and updated me frequently on their progress.

They could not find out why my puter had been dumping physical memory, BSODing and rebooting.

I told them to test the game to see if they could reproduce the problem, they replied they had no internet in the support station and could not attempt to join a server in the game.

I asked them to try Single Player, they said they would.

I recieved the 5680 yesterday. total turnaround time was 4 days.

When I unpacked the puter I was dissapointed to find the case had been scratched on top. When I opened it, the keyboard was extremely dusty and the monitor was very dirty, completely opposite of the condition it had left my condo in.

There was no note that they had tried Single Player so I assume either they could not reproduce the problem or they simply did not try.

On the RMA sheet, it mentions nothing of removing the screw from inside the computer.

They only tests performed on my computer to determine where the issue was, was a run of 3dmark.

The fan was cleaned, and the system was reformatted as I asked.

Overall I was very happy with the quick turnaround and the tech's willingness to keep me updated over the tele.

I am unhappy about the damage to my case and the condition it was returned in. Also if all Sager Tech Support does in a video issue RMA is run 3dmark, I would like to put in an application. Aren't these guys supposed to be computer Guru's? And all they do is run 3dmark? Im sure they make good money doing it, hopefully they have some openings for new hires. Im guessing 15 an hour running 3dmark, reformatting and cleaning cpu fans. Beats waiting tables.

I am currently re-loading programs and getting the system back up to speed. Hopefully the game will work, but after their lack of ability to reproduce the problem and their lackluster testing of the unit, I am less than optimistic.

A good nontraditional review. It's nice to hear that they were very helpful.

I had the same memory dump BSOD problem but Sager overnighted me two new sticks of RAM and my lappy had no down time

Update : They DID test the single player mode of the game.
The problem seems to have been resolved.
Hopefully I can buff the scratches out

Thanks Sager.

don't know how i would feel about getting a scratched system returned to me. i would probably have them fix it

It appears that Sager's tech support centers are extremely dusty, that's all... After my TWO RMA's, the laptop kept coming back very dusty, but it doesn't really affect anything at all. Quick dusting with antistatic cloth got rid of everything...

I can't imagine the tech centers being dusty. It would seem to be the last thing you would want in a computer tech center is a lot of dust. My guess is its the shipping department or the shipping boxes that's the source of the dust. Still not good. Dust is never good. Ever.

But thanks for the review, this is the kind of stuff we need more of.

I would agree- it's somewhere in the shipping. But it seems like they need to seal the boxes better if this is a common occurence.
