Hello!

I was crying for pictures of the latest AW's when I wanted to purchase mine, so here are some of my brand new m5500! And by the way, thanks to the other posters for their pics, impressions and reviews!

I'm preparing quite a detailed review as well, I'm not finished yet but it shouldn't take too long... Overall it should be positive, but I want to spend more time on it first...!

The specs are the following:

Screen: Widescreen 15.4" WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050)
CPU: Intel Pentium M 760 - 2 GHz
RAM: 1 Gb DDR2 PC-4200, 533Mhz (2x512Mo)
Video card: Alienware m5500 MXM NVIDIA GeForce 6600 Go 256Mb
Hard disk: 80Gb 7200rpm
CD/DVD: 8x DVD-Burner DL / CD-RW 24x
OS: XP Home Edition SP2
Warranty: 1-year

All the rest is standard (audio, network, wireless etc.).

Ordered on 01/15, shipped on 01/25

I already ran the various 3DMark tests:

3DMark 2006: 1250 (SM2.0: 499, HDR/SM3.0: 432, CPU: 853)
3DMark 2005: 2698
3DMark 2003: 6361
3DMark 2001: 15559

And here are the pics!

Hope you like them!

Cheerio,
Djool

Great job on the pictures. It looks even thinner in your photos than it does on the AW website. Looking forward to your review.

(side note - I currently have the same wallpaper on my notebook)

StyleXP with theme Luna Elements 3. I like it a lot, it's very similar to the XP Media Center Edition skin (i.e. 'Royale'), and StyleXP only takes 3Mb of RAM with this theme!

I love it!

Got mine last week. Mine scored 3Mark03: 6248, and 3DMark05: 2783. This machine is pretty incredible.. CS Source is sooo much more fun in 1680x1050!

Also played some Quake 4...

Can't believe how pretty the graphics are!!! Check it out (these are from the demo, so the settings are on high, not even ultra)

That looks really nice! I really love the high res screens. It is a shame that you cannot get these kind of resolutions on smaller desktop monitors.
Someone should start a company and produce these screens in desktop fashions

even i must say those are some quite pimp pictures...
what are the 3 buttons near the power button for?
From left to right:

a) Wireless on/off

b) Media Player Instant On

c) Launch Internet Explorer

EDIT: the above description is the one I copied from my manual. I notice when I look at mine, it's reverse. The wireless on/off is on the right side, and the internet launch button is on the left...

I just noticed something, maybe people can explain. Why do some 5500 have a "skinny" return button and some have almost a square. Have a look at the pics on this thread and others (like the AW site). I know it's a small thing, but I prefer the bigger return key to slam when typing.
Hmm... that's a good question. I purchased mine fairly recently, and it has the long enter button, and a slightly different looking keyboard in general than the one in this thread. I think they might have changed the design for the newer ones, but I'm not sure. If you really care you can call Alienware and ask, they're always helpful.

Never noticed the return button til you mentioned it - mine is the larger enter key. I also note some of the keys on the one in the pics just has the symbol without the description (that part I do like better).
