Dead EX7

I was wondering if anyone had this happen? I was using Windows Movie Maker (which may or may not be relavent) and with no warning, my computer went dead. No blinking screen, nothing but a sudden black screen and silence. Now, it will not start. The battery indicator is green, and the lights flick on for a second when I press the power button. I have checked everything to do with the battery and the charger. I tried it with the battery removed and on AC power only. I tried it with just the battery.
When I press the power button, the battery indicator turns orange for a second, goes out, then back to green. The light ring around the power button does not light up, but the CAP lock and other keyboard lights do light up for a second, then everything goes dead again. I can play CDs on the CD player, and everything works fine there, all lights and functions.
I did email Hypersonic, and I am waiting now for a reply. I have had the system since the first of December, and I have had no problems at all. I clean the fans and vents daily and I do have it on a surge protector. I bought laptop legs that lifts it up and allows air flow underneath, and I have a desk fan that blows across the rear to circulate air. I baby this machine because it is the result of two years of saving and research. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone before, and what was the result?

How much video did you put in?

Looking at your HD set up you really cant put much in. More like 8-10 minutes at the most.

I see this alot with this with people wanting to do Video on "Home Computers".

Yes you can but you kill it by doing so. I work in the business, I have several computers that are ONLY for video, meaning no other programs on it but the non linear program and very basic os. No games, no HD intensive MS, no Music (only what I use for production then its gone). Once a project is done its masterd to DVD/DV Tape and drives are cleaned. I have 4 massive 0 raided 450s, (soon to be replaced with a few Tetra drives).

Btw we are talking G4 and G5 Macs.

If you were putting in Video non compressed your system choked on it. Even compressed you can choke it if you dont have the room for it.

You will have to reformat drive, load all your stuff back into it and try not to use MS as a "Video Editing" program. You can do well with Sony Vegas or Adobe Premire...BUT you need the space.

My arrays alone can deal with up to two hours of material (but its stretching it and it acts up at this level).

If you insist on using MS get a few stand alone HDs that will handle only your video storage while you work the project. And again when done clean it out. And beware of firewires I have been hearing lately of boards burning because of the card. Make sure your cpu can handle it.

And one last thing. Its not as quick as the product makes it out to be. A lot of time is needed for rendering the final project. Its a leave it overnight kind of deal even with the smallest of projects (sometimes).

probably a mobo problem. a lot of clevos mobos have crapped out on people. mine has done that(but booted again) during battlefield 2, and it was running cool. it wasnt saving the parts, all the temps were cool, and no vents were obstructed. mine crapped out on me for the 2nd time, and i know there are others with the same situation. I too have bought this laptop after 2years of research and collecting money. I wanted to get a dtr notebook for a while, and decided to finally get one, only for it to crap out on me twice.

I had a 5 gb home movie I was cutting into clips and editing until it was small enough to burn onto a DVD. I have 2 HD, one for the OS, programs and games. The other is a 120 gb and is used just for storage of unedited video. I have a lot of VHS home movies I am editing and burning to DVD. The only program running was Windows Movie Maker, and I had started it to just let it run until finished.
The system is DRT (Dead Right There). It doesn't even try to boot up. A little blinking of the keyboard lights and then nothing.
I did get some suggestions from Pat at Hypersonic, and I also got a reply to my email sent to tech support. I'll post the results of my continued attempts as soon as I can sit down and try out the suggestions I got. Thanks for the replies.

yeah just send it in. it is most definitely a mobo problem. i feel like more and more people are getting trash mobos from clevo. this isnt just a hypersonic problem. i have been hearing of all sorts of problems from sager to aw. clevo needs to get their priorities in order.

This is something that you never hear when using editing software. Whenever you make "clips", what it does is duplicate what your are using into the codex of the software program, therefore you have 2 identical clips. So what you thought was 5g is now 10 and so on and so on. This is where the space issue comes in. If you did not remove (clean out) your storage, you will have old clips sitting there clogging the system.

One of the key elements of editing video is only put in the system what you are really going to use. Logging what you want to edit before you put it in.

This is identical to symptoms that others have who do this. Its a hard drive problem. Your 120gb is too small to handle the storage of "a lot".

I repeat, even with my 4 450s loaded with a 2 hour program, its not 100% certain that it won't crash, and it has happened. We all are not immune. Thats why HD size is key to this. The more space the better.

Also one of the worse things you can do is use the computer burner to make your DVD. If possible use a stand alone burner (ie panasonic) and cut your DvDs via Firewire or S cable and audio that way. Goes much quicker.

Sounds like a dead motherboard. HS prolly told you to try booting it with one or the other ram chips because it might be a ram chip. In my case it wasn't, I hope that is it in your case because it is an easy fix. If not, welcome to the club.

Try reading his post, the computer will not boot up, won't even post. I has nothing to do with how much data is stored on his hard drive. Even if he did kill the drive the computer would still post. How do you suggest he re-format his hard drive if the laptop will not even turn on?

From past experience

I have traced most of the problems being a HD filled to the brim with video codex and behaving just like this. They have the same similar characteristics. Had to swap out HDs and reformat from boot.

If it is bad board, again as I stated above there has been instances of late being the Firewire card and the board. This is now coming to light with others I work with. This is a relatively NEW problem and is being investigated further.

These have been in my experiences. I have been working in TV production for a quite awhile and am just making my input for what it maybe worth.

Just curious

Were you using a Firewire?

There are a few Tetra Externals out there, one of those would solve anyones storage problems.
