Sigmatel Sound Card and Windows 2003

I need to install Windows 2003 on the I9400, but I've been unable to get the audio drivers for the Sigmatel Sound Card to load on Windows 2003.

The driver setup bombs outright unless I run it for XP Compatibility mode but even with that the drivers don't install right.

The audio card is a Sigmatel Stac 9200... and it worked on the original install.

Anyway to fake out the installer to get it to run on 2003? Or at least to get the device into the device list? I don't see the sound card as a device so I can't manually install the drivers...

Same gig with the modem, but that's not quite as urgent...

It's the same everytime on these installs. Considering XP and 2003 use the same driver model this is beyond lame that these cards aren't loading on 2003.

Anybody have any suggestions? I've run out of ideas...

Any help appreciated...

Have you tried picking the Don't search. I will choose the driver to install option then pick and choose a similar driver (but not the specific SigmaTel HD driver from Dell). Just install a diff driver that is native to Win2003 in its list...this will be incorrect and the sound driver will be flagged with a yellow exclamation point. But now when you manually pick the specific correct SigmaTel driver you download from Dell and unzipped, install it should work...

I'm using Windows 2003 SP1 and drivers are a littly trickier to install for whatever reason...

Well the real problem is that the audio card doesn't show up in the hardware list at least not as a Sound Card/Device. I have one Unknown PCI device which could be either the sound card or the modem or neither . I've tried to install both modem and audio drivers to the device, but it just comes back with 'incorrect device type'.

I think there's some sort of bootstrap required to get the OS to recognize it. I tried to manually install the WDM Service but it won't start without the drivers installed.

The card worked with the original Media Center install so the audio card should be good, but I'm at the end of my line at this point.

Hey, maybe I can help. I know this is an old post but if someone searches it up in the future, maybe it'll be useful.

I had no troubles installed my drivers for some reason. I'm guessing maybe you're selecting the wrong device?? If you extract the file you get from dell, you should see the wdm directory. Just point it to that and it should autoinstall without issue. Also, that PCI Device that you're seeing is for the sd reader. w2k3 doesn't come with the drivers for it so that's why.

edit: ALSO, you need to goto services and enable the windows audio. I think you've done so though.

oh wait, actually I think ever since one of the rc's of w2k3, they've made it so that if you goto the sounds page it'll ask you if you want to enable it automatically. so nevermind this part.

Intel does not support nor have any HD audio support for 2003. In intel's view non-server hardware should simply never run 2003. Period. Sigmatel's codec can not support 2003 because intel has never written drivers for the ich7 audio in 2003.

I have built a few systems with HD audio on desktop boards using sever 2003 and there just is no support for it. Sorry.
