About to order a 8600, but questions.

Checking the diff between the SB and the Home version I noticed the SB is cheaper in the long haul, and you get a free Palm Zire or Printer, but you don't get the discount on the 7200rpm drive, which is annoying.

So it kinda leaves me in the predicament between getting a 1.6 w/7200, 9600, 512meg or the 1.7 w/(i believe)4200/9600, 512meg

Both are priced around $1800

Haven't had much luck finding any SB coupons though, which would really push me more towards that getup.

Anytips or headsup on coupons would be nice, and which way would you go?

Well, ive configured many systems through both home and sb online.

You would think that SB is cheaper but that division charges you tax. Unless you can find a 15% off coupon to offset the tax, then it usually comes to about the same price found in home, well for me anyways with CA tax rate.

The only way I see getting a cheaper price at SB is if you get free shipping, 15% off coupon, and your states tax is not high.

SB always charges Tax and NY, FL also will charge you for various other minor taxes for SB. If you had to choose then give up 100Mhz for the faster hardrive you will be much happier

I live in Oregon where no Sales Tax exists.

I was unaware but generally Dell cannot charge tax unless you live in Texas excluding On site service in FL and NY. Call Pre Sale at Dell and ask if you will be charged sales tax

I just bought an external HDD from Dell, live in Virginia, and was charged tax.

They might have shiped it from a Depot in Virginia or to a Local Reseller

Dell also has kiosks in some malls. If they have one anywhere in your state, they have to charge you sales tax. That's why I bought mine and had it shipped to school in Minnesota rather than buying it at home in Ohio.

That would also be correct
