My XPS game with Windows XP Home, and now my job requires me to tellecommute, so I bought XP Professional, reformatted my laptop, and installed it. Now my USB ports operate at 1.1 instead of 2.0. I didn't get to install all the drivers, the only one I didnt get to install was Dell Notebook System Software, it told me that "this operating system isn't supported". I searched on Dells website, found no mention to this problem.

I am sure Dell sells XPS/M170's with Xp Pro.

What you need is the Intel Chipset drivers to be reinstalled which you can find in the M170 downloads page in dell support.

I need to get the file usbehci.sys, I think this is the critical file I need because the drivers asked for this file every time i tried to install. Google has not helped at all, and I don't know where to look for this fileon my system. if anyone has this on their Dell please post it here.

OK that program gave me the same error also "This OS is not supported". I fixed the problem myself. I found a website listed on another website that emailed me the file for $12, USBEHCI.sys now everything is working, but I get this error in device manager.

I wonder if that is even legal as I am guessing the company behind that web site did not hold any copyrights for USBEHCI.sys.

Little late now, but in case someone else runs into this issue...

I had the same exactly problem, even down to the same USB driver issue. It turns out the notebook system software from the Dell site was the problem. The same software that came on the Dell CD (CDs come standard only with the XPS systems...gotta pay/order them separately for all others) worked just fine though. No clue why it is this way, but if you're having trouble..get yourself a copy of the restoration CD or burn yourself a copy from your hard drive before you delete the help partition.
