Personally I use the omega drivers to overclock it, just go into ati tools and set your limit, I would do something lower at first. Definately using hardware notebook control is good for some as well, where it shows you system temperatures and overclocking options. I dont usually overclock though unless I am messing around, these games play just fine on mine without.

Overclocking is raising the speed of core / memory of your GPU (in this case your x300) from the default 300mhz for core and 250mhz for memory (if Im not mistaken), just like CPU, higher speed = better result and also hotter temp

you can use either NHC or Ati Tool

NHC
pro : have setting for undervolt
can also monitor your cpu/gpu/hd temp

Ati tool
pro : have 3d detection, so it will only overclock when you run games

or you can use NHC for undervolt, I8Kfangui for temp monitoring and Ati Tools for Overclocking, but it will make your systray pretty packed
