Dell Inspiron 9400 hot centre

I just received my dell 9400 with 2 gig of memory but Im noticing quite a lot of heat coming from the underneath centre of the laptop where the memory lives. Ive done some tests with dell, all of which passed. If it remains hot I am to call dell and arrange for a technician to have a look.

Is this normal for inspirons to get hot over the memory door? I was only browsing the internet via wifi for 10 minutes before I noticed the heat. I had the laptop on my lap at the time but the underneath centre wasnt covered by my lap. The heat is about the same heat degree as the top right hand corner where the fan is.

I dont remember the xps I used for a few days having this problem. Im not sure, but I suppose it would have caught my attention. I just remember the xp getting warm in one of the corners.

Any advice would be appreciated. Im new to inspirons and powerful laptops so not sure is this is normal. The technician on the phone didnt seem to know either.

No need to crosspost in multiple forums..

To answer your question.. That is normal. There should be heat coming out of it, and it should not be used on your lap, as it will probably burn it.. It's a Notebook, not a laptop..

Well i've used mine on my lap and i haven't had any problems with the heat. Sure, it's warm, but not scorching.

Mine is quite warm, borderline hot. But actually my prehistoric HP would get quite warm.

My 9300 is the same... I suspect the 2GB of RAM fills the space and generates more heat so it is worse for us than for people with less memory.

I've always thought they were the same thing just different names, something that has been called different names by different companies and now they are referred to as the same. Just my way of seeing it.

I guess it's all subjective.. All notebooks are laptops but not all laptops are notebooks?

Notebooks are usually bigger, hotter, and heavier...I think they call it that because of how people complain that it's hard to use their laptop on their lap, despite the name.
:edit: Wierd, didn't know notebooks were technically smaller. From what i've seen at least, notebook has been the term to define bigger laptops.

From what I get this is saying these are the same just different names, but the page also talks about subnotebooks so click the link below and tell us what your opinion is!
