here it isWell first off this computer is worth having my wife not talk too me for a week because I spent the money on me and not her.
The notebook I was using before this beauty was a Compaq Presario 2100US with a 1.6GHz Celeron processor. 1024 MB RAM (bought extra from crucial, came with 256RAM) ATI 64 shared memory video card. 30GB HD(no idea what the speed is) DVD/CD-RW. I included a picture to compare the size and look. For under $1000 this machine got a good full year work out of it. The only problem besides being slow that I had a surge go through it and HP/Compaq had to replace the screen and motherboard at no cost to me and the service was really quick shipped overnight and fixed the next day. Can’t beat that.
I would like to thank everyone on this forum because of you I have my dream machine. At first I was going to go with the 15.4 screen and upgrade the RAM to 1056 but thanks to pictures and what people wrote I’m glad I didn’t do that.
Ordered Dec 4th payment taken out Dec. 5th got the computer Jan 6th. A little over a month. Worth the wait.
Pent. 4 3GHz ( .2 wasn’t worth $180 to me, Ill save that for more RAM later.)
512MB RAM PC-3200
60GB HD 7200RPM (was thinking of 80GB but Alienware told me it’s better to go with the quicker HD) Also there is really only 55GB on the 60GB HD. Just a note
3 year warranty(was going to get a 1 year but you guys helped me chose the 3 year which I’m glad I did. If you’re going to invest $3000 into something it’s always good to have a warranty.)
DVD-RW/CD-RW (I bought DVD X Platinum and can’t wait to test out the burner. I’ll let you know how it goes.)
The only thing they forgot to send me was my 12 month gaming subscription. (Glad they didn’t forget to send the computer. Called AW and told them and there sending me it through the mail. Also waiting for my $50 Amazon gift card.
And now to my new Area51M. Well this beast is beautiful and worth the wait.
We all have seen pictures of the packing and mine looked the same so I didn’t take pictures of it. Also I couldn’t wait to get it out.
Well when I unpacked it I placed on my living room table and unpacked the rest of it. The charger for it is huge compared to my Compaq but the Compaq is a 75w and the AW is 160w.
The screen is beautiful, big, bright, no dead pixels, and no ghosting.
The case for the AW has no damage and the paint is not smooth but a sort of a soft sand paperish feel if that makes sense to you. If I ever have to send it in I would have them change it to green. Love both colors.
The keyboard is hella nice. I’ve typed on the Dell 8500 and its all flexable this thing doesn’t move. Very Nice! The keys are a light black color so maybe you could get something to have the keyboard “glow” The only thing that i dontlike is the Fn and Ctrl key....
And one of my fav. Features the eyes! They rock. When the computer is all charged the eyes are green. When its running on the battery its blue. I haven’t run it on batteries so I don’t know when it turns red. Ill let you know when I figure it out.
Well when I turned it on it was blazing fast and the normal xp setup was really easy duh. When it loaded up an error came up my fear. The message I saw was that it could find windows updater or something like that. I installed Norton Systemworks and Internet security but was having problems changing setting for it so I thought I would reformat it and start all over.
I did. It didn’t take that long. When it was all over with I used the utility CD that came with it and installed the drivers that was on there. I then went to the AW website then downloaded the new ATI driver and updated everything for windows.
After all that was over with I installed Norton Systemworks and Internet security and updated that. Then the other programs I installed was DVD X platinum, Star Wars KOTOR, MS office 2003(the new one), Power DVD 4 from the master CD, and just some personal things. I had to call AW tech because they don’t have Alien Adrenaline on there website so they email it too me. After installing that I went to overclock it and cant. So I called AW and there resending it too me again and I hope it works this time. I’ll let you know how it goes.
The big problem I’m having is playing my games I have installed. I installed Star Wars KOTOR and Age of Mythology. When I ran AOM It would get to the main screen and when I moved the mouse it would freeze up and I would have to hold the power button down to restart it. I tried that a few times and still the same thing happened. So I have to call AW and find out what’s going on with that. With KOTOR I updated it and when I try and run the game it will show a little icon of a disc and it keeps doing that for about 30secs and I get this message “unable to authenticate original disc within time limit” and I’m using the play disc. So I have to find out what is wrong with this computer.
I’ll update you once AW and me figure this out. I know its not the game because I can use it on my desktop.
If anyone has questions just let me know and I’ll try and help you out.
