Now to try and salary sacrifice it...

Haha! Same here.
Hey, AzzKikr! I am just curious, which part didn't you purchase from the T2600 configurator since you are saving $69.82AUD? Have a look at my first post in this thread:
http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=132291

I also tried to haggle with a Dell saleswoman over the phone. However, no luck whatsoever!
She won't provide the $100 cash off she initially agreed to, once she found out about the $500 cash discount and the 8% EPP
on my cart. One would think getting a sales commision is more important than losing $100.

Anyway, $3337.58AUD is a sw33t deal for what we are getting!

Cheers.

Went for 2x 512mb modules instead of 1x 1024.

Might ring up tomorrow and haggle some; see if i can ditch the free battery for something else.

Hmmz. It still does not compute.
The price difference between the above two options is $81.40.
[I was just playing with the T2600 configurator again.]

Good luck with that.
Let me know if you succeed. The extension number of the sales person would be very helpful.

I spent the better part of afternoon haggling with Dell sales people, and now I am sick of it. I have a couple of quotes which are exactly the same deal that I am getting by ordering online with the 8% EPP. So, I am obviously not going to go through with the quotes by these pesky Dell sales people. I have submitted my order online instead. Why should they get any sales commissions if they don't help you out.

Personally, I would keep the free battery - what with the buggy Microsoft/Intel Core Duo USB driver that saps your battery juice!

More questions ...

(1) Since the performance difference between the T2600 [2.16 GHz Core Duo] and T2500 [2.00 GHz Core Duo] is hardly significant, is it better to just drop down to T2500, and haggle with them to see if they will give you $300 off?

(2) I have just recently finished my software engineering course at Melb Uni. So, I am still in the process of organising a full time SE job. Do you know if it is still possible to salary sacrifice my notebook once I get a full time job?
I am assuming salary sacrifice is completely separate from my dealings with Dell, right?

Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers.

1.) Depends on what you're using it for. This laptop will replace my desktop, and be used in my job (SysAdmin). Hence, I've specced up all the grunt I can get (bar 2GB of RAM).

2.) As long as your employer is OK with it, and is prepared to do the groundwork for the Salary Sac, then there shouldn't be an issue with doing the NB when you're employed. Just make sure you discuss it with the employer at the induction.

The 7800go will outperform the 6800go any day; and for anything but gaming there are advantages to dual core. Too bad I can't get a 9400 for less than $1500.
Please note! This is NOT a 7800 GTX - it is the 7800 go. Based on all reports I've seen, a significantly weaker card (some people are rating it around the 6800).

I've just gone to the "customize" and the option is:
256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 7800 [add $299 or $9/month3]
Powerful graphics for games and other multimedia applications

Unless you know of a specific upgrade/page that allows a 7800 GTX to be used?!

Yeh exactly. It's like adding $300 to the price for something that isn't really worth it, and then taking $500 off. At the end of the day it's not the great deal it looks to be at face value. But hey it's better than no deal.

Azzkikr, thanks for the Curtin links

Why the hell do you want 2x512mb modules though? That leaves no option for upgrading.

I know. I was talking about upgrading the 6800go in a 9300 to a 7800GTX. For a while it was possible to do it for $250; but Dell has no upped the price to around $400 for a refurb. When they were still letting you do the $250 I had no interest in the 9400 as I could get a 9300 with a 7800GTX (which is much better than the 7800go) for less than $1500. Now that that is not possible anymore; and people are starting to get better results with their 7800go in 9400s, I'm not as against it. I just wish the 9400 would come down in price already so I could afford it.

Also, I'm farily confident that the 7800GTX from Dell Spare parts can not be used in the 9400, as it is a different form factor.

those are GREATTTTTT deals for the specs... you basically get TOPP TOP TOP TOP of the line specs for the $$$ . If you spent that much on a mac or alienware, u would get barely above mid range specs.

I'm honestly not fussed about the two modules - I work for an IT Company anyway, and get the modules at very cheap prices

Funny. My experience with p4 laptops was great. Got the laptop in 3 days and got 200 bucks off. How can the ITC laptops be any worse from p4laptops? ITC still make them all... They're all shipped from perth, just the orders go though the resellers.

Actually... you're slightly incorrect.

ITC, Pioneer, etc etc - all these laptops are made by a big Taiwanese OEM called Clevo. They're responsible for most of the no-name laptops that you see in stores.
