Apple G4 17" vs Sony Vaio 17"

I have worked with PC's my whole life, never owned or used a mac. I am looking for a 17" laptop to do mobile powerpoint or similar presentations to clients. I currently own all Dell computers, but I have narrowed down my choices to the Sony or the Mac. I am leaning towards the Mac, but would appreciate any opinions. Thanks in advance.

If you are doing basic things and what you listed, then definetly go with the mac. The screen is better on the Sony, but the appearance and operating system is much better on the mac.

Thanks for input. A friend just bought Sony only to have them come out with new laptops a week later and salesman said nothing, but he should have researched more. I'm concerned that Apple will come out with a new 17" next month with similar components to macbook and I'll regret not waiting. I'm going to try researching mac just a little more then jump in.

Yeah, I would go with the mac. If you are going to making presentations than keynote is the way to go. If you have to share them with other users who are on PC's, then MS Powerpoint is the only way to go. But, I would go with a mac. I've heard sony's are not that great.

both are great products. i like sony's laptops a lot, but they are way to overpriced. just get the mac.

Go Mac, just wait a little for the Intel Macs to get fully out there or go with the 15.4" MacBook Pro. The screen size difference is so small you pronbably won't even notice.

Thank you all for your opinions. i'm still leaning towards the 17" mac...went to the apple store and looked at the 15" and 17", so now I have a new dilemma. I know the mac book is a great new addition to the mac lineup, but I think I am too stubborn and want the 17"...but I'll kill myself if Apple comes out next month with a 17" macbook.

If you really need the laptop right now then there's no choice right. If you can wait Im pretty sure something is around the corner. Steve Jobs said that they will/try to switch their entire line to intel this year (before the year ends).

I'd still go with the Intel even if the screen is slighly smaller, simply because the PPC units are the equivalent of sterile beasts. All the future Macs are x86 and all of the software going forward is x86, so you will be getting a machine that will very quickly (as in a matter of months) become substandard.

Yes, wait around for the intel chip's. I went to the Apple store during the weekend and the iMac's with intel chips are really fast, compared to my 15" PB.

Thanks again everyone. I have made the decision to buy my first mac, I'm getting the 15.4" macbook pro. This was my first post on this website and you and the other posts in this forum helped me to make an informed decision. I am a Realtor in Palm Beach County Florida, but before this, I worked in NYC as a Network/PC Consultant for the better part of 15 years. I look into the forums and see if I can return the favor.
