What is max SAFE GPU temp??

Thread Starter
At what temp should I start worrying about my GPU??
id say arround 90deg C
My 7800GTX nails 90C in Halo, windowed mode at 1024x768. I can't imagine whats gonna happen in FEAR or something, these are completely stock clocks, everything.

90C is where most people seem to worry when it's the 6800(ultra or vinilla) and the 7800GTX.

The highest temperature I have hit with my 6800 ultra in Guild Wars is 94 degrees, that is the degree i9k had recorded.

I think most people are hitting the 90s without knowing it. After you finish playing a game, and exits it, the mere 4 seconds in doing so causes teh temperature to drop at least 8 degrees, and that is why most people say they never hit the 90s.

Let i9k record your highest temperature while you are playing, then report back.

tommms... argh... I hate how common sense is everything BUT common... You reset your record max temps before starting the game, and once you quit, you see what your max temp was... COMMON SENSE. I have a 445/1230 7800 go gtx and i hit 86 on i9k with fear, max. sometimes i get a second or so at 87°.

Quitting and looking at the current temp is completely unreliable... I'm not going to explain why, but it can happen that you'd be off by 15°C.

86C playing some hardcore Roller Coaster Tycoon 3.

GeForce Go 6800 Ultra.

I had seen up to 97C with FANGUI (about 103 reality) playing FEAR for extended periods in a somewhat hot environment. I sometimes hit 90C now with ceramique applied, but also in a cold environment.

No probs, but the temps were enough to make me open her up and put some thermal compound on.

are you guys that run these video cards at 90 aware of two things? 1.) water boils at 100 2.) isn't 90 going to corrupt your video card in under 1-2 years?

1.ok................
2.no, probably not because the gpu isnt 90 degrees every second it is running.
Blacklimo, tell that to Nvidia and Dell. Normal operating temps for such a small environment.

I just find it sad that I hit 90 in Halo with all stock clocks.
How long do you guys play to get these max temps??
My GPU hits 102C while playing FEAR at 1154xsomething 4AAF 4AA. I sit and watch my temps on a second monitor I have hooked up. The GPU is rated for 115 before the driver starts throttling, so Im not tooooooo worried about it yet. The keyboatd gets kinda warm though

and yeah, Im aware thats over 212 degrees F.

My 2.26Ghz CPU will hit 67C as well...

Wow people have temps up to 90, but I guess that is common with 7800. Anyways my max temp is 61
post #15 of 26

Playing mine sweeper is probably the most intense gaming you've ever done with it then. Either that or you're reading your CPU temp.
