My I9400 configuration (about to order) :-)

Howdy all,

Finally, after about a month of waiting I think the time is right for me to order the Dell Inspiron 9400 - considering Dell's limited time offer of $500 cash discount [which ends on Monday, 06/02/2006].

Here is how I configured my notebook on the Dell AU/AP site:

Quote:
Final cost after 8% EPP = $3407.40 AUD [= $2561.51 USD]

What do you guys think? Any helpful comments and feedback would be highly appreciated.

I am thinking of adding the following extra items:

Quote:

I am not sure if 2 Gb of RAM is entirely worth it.
When Windows Vista comes out, will it fly with 2 Gb of RAM on this notebook?

Thanks in advance for any helpful comments.
Cheers.

Yes.

The cost of the I9400 notebook with the configuration in my first post before applying the 8% EPP was: $3,703.70 AUD.

I am just a bit puzzled why EPP is not being applied prior to the calculation of GST.

From what I have read in another thread, someone said that would not be the case.

BTW, are you also ordering the I9400, verbatim?

I want to, I am an impulse shopper.
BUt
I would have to sell my 9300 after for a reasonable price ie over $2500 (MIN)
I'm not sure if the upgrade from 6800go to 7800go is a real upgrade.
My specs are $3290 I think. If I ring up, I reakon they would swap the 2.16cpu for a 2.0 and I'll save some money

I'm excited about;
2 cores
gfx card (potentually)
bigger HDD
More ram
e penis.

Just do it and stop thinking abt it!
And u might as well get 2gb RAM and never ever have to worry about it.

Ur lappy is gonna rock some serious shid man!

i was "waiting for the best deal" for like 2 months, and a week ago i finally couldnt take it and got the e1705...

i've never been happier even though i COULD have possibly paid less when the "next 50% off" comes whenever that is. ("Lets wait till the EOQ deals come"... hahaha)

Truthfully, once u start rocking ur e1705 with the games, u wont even remember the extra few hundred $ u paid..

I would suggest not to get to crazy . You can always bank several hundred dollars and collect interest, and use it apply as downpayment on your next laptop after 2 to 3 years which will be light years ahead of the 1705. More like the new model 1720 will have 7 cores, 64 bit, runnin at 4 ghz, 18 hr battery life, nivida 2000gtx card running directx 14.

True but computer components get outdated in 6 months anyways so it's easier to spend a few bucks now and extend the life a little longer and be able to sell it for more of a resale value later.

good point...

buy when it is just released,
and sell at 50% off when its about to get replaced by a newer model..

It's all about balance....you have to use the force IMHO it's best to wait for the best deal if you already have something to get you by. I'm not talking about waiting for the next best thing, because that will always happen.....what I'm referring to is not giving them (Dell) more money than you have to if you can afford to wait.

I'm waiting for the price of the E1705 to come down. I originally purchased a 9300 during the EPP sale around Christmas and ended up sending it back for various reasons, one of them being that the dual cores were about to drop. But then again, I still had my Gateway 7405GX with an AMD 64 3200 processor, so waiting wasn't really that big of a deal (other than the anxiety it casued

Finally, a somewhat better deal (not sure if it is) with the cheaper 2.0 GHz CPU [T2500].

The total with everything max spec - which is pretty much the same as <db> plus extra 1 Gb of DDR2-667 SDRAM = $3490.30 AUD [$2603.80 USD] [after 8% EPP].

For me that is a saving of $266.24 AUD for downgrading to the T2500 CPU. Do you guys think it is worth it since the performance differential between the T2600 and T2500 CPUs are 1% - 5% [as pointed out by someone]?

I figure they are charging me $360.50 AUD for the extra 1 Gb of DDR2-667 SDRAM
[$268.93 USD = $360.50 AUD = $490.30 - ($45.10 Colour Kit + $69.30 Large Notebook Backpack + $15.40 Mouse)]. That sucks!
