Panasonic Toughbook?

I work as a Fire Fighter/Paramedic in Hawaii (I know, tough life! ) and were looking to put tablets on our ambulances. This is the one our administration is eyeballing http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/...nas-cf-18.html
I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with this model. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Mahalo.

I am the network admin for the fire dept my wife works for and they use the Panasonic Toughbook-29 and they are great rugged systems. Very similar to the 18 your dept is looking at. I have actually accidentally dropped one about 5 feet and it didn't hurt it at all.

I like the looks of Toughbooks. I'm surprised there isn't a "Panasonic" support forum in here... Kinaiahi, see if they can start one.

Toughbooks seem to be geared toward field use for police/fire/ems etc. This forum has mainly been for gamers and tweaker. People who want to be able to overclock, undervolt, and modify their rigs to suit their needs. I personally wouldn't get a panasonic for my own use. I would choose Dell, Alienware or sager (not necessarily in that order).

So far tech support has been top notch. Only had one real issue, and it was solved quickly over the phone. You are correct in that Toughbooks are more for fire/ems and police use. These machines are built to take a beating and keep on working.

We have one here - pretty nice, although its defininely more bulky than a normal laptop. But is is solid. The metal case actually feels like plastic (its not). The keyboard is a bit strange since its designed to be water-resistant. So you have to press the keys harder than normal. That slows down your typing. If you are used to slapping the space bar with your thumb, you'll have to be more deliberate.

Performance wise, its very good. Screen is a little too low res for me, but if you're in the field, its not like you need uber-resolutions.

Definitly a niche laptop.
