Overclocking the gpu increase game performance?

Awhile back I saw a few benchmarks of a overclocked GPU (think it was the 9800pro, was a few years ago), that showed increases in benchmarks, but did not show any increase in game speed (fps). Is this still true?

if so, can you link me to charts that show the data, I can't find any.

if I remember correctly the game they were using was Halo, and FPS wise it gettting like 49 stock, and 49~50 overclocked.

you will see fps increase when you overclock. the faster the card, the faster the games.

yeah overclocking is like adding horsepower to a car.

I would like to see benchmarks or personal experience with numbers if possible.

anyone?

If you OC too much, to very unstable point, you will see a decrease in performance instead, preceed with caution and slowly OC to where no artifacts appears

no if you overclock ur GPU it will lead to a lower game performance. . Sorry . couldn't help myself

di96: benchmarks are everywhere. you just have to open your eyes. .... .... ... ok here ya go: my geforce go 7800 gtx stock 400/1100 @ 3dmark05: ~6700

450/1210: 7500

if that does help you.

Dell Inspiron 9400:

7800 Go:

Stock - 100core/658memory
Overclocked - 350core/856memory

Used coolbits to oc video card. this proved to increase Aquamark score from 57k to 68k, and a 3DMark06 score of 3,200.

Ya but does it increase FPS in games?
When I overclocked my 7800 from stock, to 362/887 mhz, I didnt see any increase in the Counter-strike:source stresstest, and not in BF2 either...

3d mark 05 6049 mobileforce 81.98 380/921

6000+ score in 3dmark05 doesn't seem all that great for a T2600 and 7800XG...

this notebook I'm using is a T2500 and Go 7800 using stock drivers from Dell and still scoring 5250 in 3dmark05...

http://forum.ncix.com/forums/index.p...t=51&subpage=1

theres a bunch of tests I've run so far without doing much overclocking yet.

with the scores I got I didn't hit anything over 68c so far, and idle is about 54c

Edit: Yes it changes game play, what kind of idiot can't understand that increasing power and performance will increase game play? If you add NOS to a car will ride faster? If you have 256mb of ram and you add another 256mb or even 512mb will it perform better? YES. This is just blatently obvious.

Get some FPS out here....cause it can all be in your head. I remember overclocking some of my stuff when I had a radeon 8500 and it increased benchmarks...but really did verry little in game with timedemo's and actual play.

You sound like an ass. chill. And give us some real life fps numbers...stress tests...timedemos etc..

Andre,

How are you temps in the panel? Do your fans constantly kick on and off in 2D as a result of your video card temp skyrocketing to upwards of 80?

Please help! (I'm using 81.97)

if it increases fps in 3dmark it will also in games.
i could be that if you try to oc it resets itself everytime and so you dont notice a fps increase cause you actually didnt overclock at all!
Could also be that a lot of people forget to turn off V-Sync.... that's a frame rate "killa"...
Okay I did the stresstest in CSS again.
@ stock = 130 fps / all options on high
@ 362/887 = 145 FPS / all options on high

Yay!

The "game" is the driver of the car. Just because you add more horsepower that doesnt alway mean the application is going to take advantage of those extra cycles. But some applications do.. of course the only "for sure" one that comes to mind is 3dmark bench software. If your LCD screen is running at 60hz, anything above 60 frames per second can't be displayed.

Yeah but if you get a significant increase in 3dMark06 you will get a significant increase in games like Quake, Doom, Counterstrike, etc.

Show me someone who gets 60 FPS before overclocking and I'll show you someone who doesn't need to overclock.
