Is there a way to install SATA on Gen 2?

The latest intel chipset update for the Gen 2 came out recently and one of the things it does is to add support for SATA drives, I was wondering is there any way to modify the PATA connection to SATA?

1) IDE -> SATA CABLE
2) A SATA PCMCIA Card

Thats all I can think of

But wouldn't an IDE to SATA cable defeat the purpose of the increased speed?

No, there is no way

Yes, there is no way - the cables for 2.5" hard drives aren't the standard 80-pin ATA-100 spec cables, so an adapter wouldn't work.

I use a pcmcia SATA card, it works fine and is nice and fast, though you dont get the max throughput that you would expect unfortunately.

I use this one with no problems whatsoever

When you put the laptop in suspend mode, the external sata hard disk also goes into suspend mode and turns off which is rather cool

Meh, laptop hard drives aren't all that fast anyways...I don't think I'm missing out on much.

Agreed. SATA on a laptop is marketing fodder.

Solid state storage is coming anyway.
