9880 CD-RW/DVD Drive Problem

Recently my optical drive on my 9880 started having a large problem. While the computer still recognizes the drive and power runs through it, the drive always shows as having a blank disc inserted. It does not matter if there is a disc in the drive or not, it always acts as if you can write files to a blank cd.

I have tried a few things to try and fix this, disenabling and enabling the drive and looking for updated drivers for the drive, but I have had no luck with either.

Does this sound like a problem that will require the drive to be replaced?

I don't know if it will help but the drive in question is a QSI CDRW/DVD SBW242B. Any and all help is appreciated, thank you!

It sucks

Hey. I have that same drive, and it sucks. I've had it RMAed 2 times. These drives just have issues. Firmware updates will not help either. To fix this problem, I bought a brand new drive from newegg. No problems at all. I recommend buying a new drive. I know it sucks because u paid for that drive, and it doesn't work. I know the feeling all to well.
