And another vote for AVG... Free what more could you ask for a home based user, behind a firewall.

I like Avast. It has saved me from a couple viruses. It updates every day automatically and I have been woke up in the middle of the night to the voice "Virus database has been updated" coming from my PC speakers.

I'm in the same situation. The wierd thing is I was just seeing how much the pc-cillin cost and so I clicked the buy now button and it says $79.95.

Well if you go to the website the regular price is only $49.95. Or if you go to upgrade through their website it is only $24.95.

All these prices were for the Internet Security Package. What gives, they charge more if you have a Dell ??

Edit: Another oddity, I went to Kaspersky and you can get a 2 yr download for 69.95 but their banner ad on their site says the 1 yr version is $79.95...but if you just manually go to their e-store is is $59.95....wierd

Currently CA has an offer to give away their eTrust anti-virus free for one year. I have been using it and feel it works well, espcially given the price:

i like pc-cillin - a very light load compared to norton & mcaffee... can really tell the difference...

also use pc doctor (love it!) and ms antivirus...

btw, i think some of you are taking the "updates every 30 mins" thing too seriously... just because it updates doesn't mean it has any new virus definitions - could be just a gimmick to make you think it's doin' somethin' - NOT SAYIN' IT IS, JUST A THOUGHT... my pc-cillin gets hit 1 to 3 times daily IT VARIES, prolly the way the number of virus defs are added... "every 30 mins" sounds like too much... just a thought

AVG and AntiVir are both doing a good job in terms of stopping viruses and such, and they are both free!

The only issue I have with AVG is that I always have to activate the e-mail-scanner manually.
When it starts with WinXP, it keeps telling me, that
"the e-mail-scanner is not fully functional".
Annoying thing!

@PcGeek04

One physical drive in my machine.
Two primary partitions for the os's.
Boot manager for choosing which partition to boot in another primary partition.

Is that what you wanted to know?

May toy with it. maybe even linux too who knows.. we'll see if i get jumpy. lol

Kaspersky

I used to have AVG. I always update my avg virus def file and one day my computer was really slowing down, I tried to do a virus scan... NOTHING.

So I tried to download panda, mcafee and norton, panda didnt see it, mcafee and norton saw like 2-4 virus. Then I tried kaspersky, it saw that I had like 20-25 virus.

That's my bad experience with AVG.

Since I'm ONLY using AVG, I maybe should double check with another prog.

Is there another free version of Kaspersky aside from that "Free Online Scanner" thing?

That's the reason why I started this thread. I thought $79.95 is kinda steep. I went to their website and I did not see the lower prices you mentioned. Anyway, I think I'm going with AVAST for now, which I downloaded already for FREE.

I guess we could always just do the 30 day trials (some are longer i.e. 60 days etc) and when one runs out just go to another....

PC-cillin cheaper price - When I added it to cart to check out it offered me some Home Secutiry Package for $89.95...go figure

Also here is their upgrade page with a price of $24.95 for a years worth of updates/upgrades.

On another note with the PC-cillin mine popped up a box saying it would soon expire and offered me another year for $39.95...so umm yeah they really need to get their stuff straight.

NOD32 user. Low resources, excellent capture.

US Army uses Symantec Corporate.
