[Look here]who wants a peak of what's inside the i9400

I helped my friend aply AS5 to both his Cpu + GPU . Since he didn't have a camera, I took some pictures and posted them in this thread.

removing the palm rest was a breeze, the procedure is exactly like the i9300. The heatsink for the CPU connects all the way to the chipset, but Dell only uses a thermal pad, instead of thermal paste for the chipset, but I don't think anyone would really bother about a chipset overheating. Anyway, here are some pictures of the GPU CPU and the motherboard layout.

nice pics thanks for posting them

Can you read the part numbers off the 7800 RAM chips? That would settle the DDR1/DDR3 debate.

Yeahh. Which RAM is in there?

ok here it is :

it says :" SAMSUNG K4J553230f GC16

I don't know what that means, but i'm almost positive it's only DDR1. Dell doesn't use good ram like alienware / apple, where their RAM runds at 1.1 Ghz !!!!!

WTF???? That's GDDR3 capable of 1.6ns!

Doesn't make sense....

That 7800 non-GTX is of a different form factor than the 7800GTX Go. That sucks majorly.

Holy beard ! are u kidding me yo . DDR3 ??????? id that's the case I won't worry setting mt RAM to 1250 Mhz with XtremeG!!! . but of course I won't. I only go up to 800Mhz

Yeah, that's good stuff. Spec'd for 1.25GHz.

nice picks mainboard layout seems almost identical as in 9300

Hey thanks!

I've found @ samsung semic. a pdf with the GDDR specs. Its GDDR3 !

It seems a "Q" for 1,8v. with 600 MHz.

Nice pics, thanks!

Do you have any info on temps before and after (idle and under load)?

Off Topic an possibly silly remarks

My SoDimms in the 9400 are also Samsung memory. Isn't the screen also a Samsung (I believe it is).

Seems like Samsung made a good deal with Dell...

SWEET!!!!!!!!! is this the same as the GTX ram? and does this mean its the same hardware as a gtx, and only locked via software??

Sorry ... what I meant was different number of pipelines and vertex shader units, etc. ... which would explain ppl are not able to unlock them via Rivatuner.
hmm have ppl confirmed the fact that pipelines etc are different?
some ppl were so sure that it was DDR1 in 7800.

If you look at NN's post: he was the first to confirm it was DDR3 RAM by using Rivatuner.

Rivatuner on my 9400 says this:

I'm still *very* curious about any temperature changes before and after AS5 on the original post.

So those "missing" shaders and pipelines are there...but locked, right???
