This is Ridiculous-Part Back Ordered

I just received an email notifying me that a part was back ordered on the Sentia m3400. At first glance I was like this isn't the part that I ordered, I ordered 8X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW / 24X CD-RW Combo w/Software and they're telling me that 8X DVD+/-RW LITE-ON is back ordered. So I called them and they told me it was a nickname for that part which I don't see how that's possible. Anyway I think this is totally unacceptable from a company especially because when I ordered it, it did not say may delay order like some other parts did. I'm seriously debating whether or not to cancel this system and go purchase a Dell.On top of that I paid in full, not with a credit card but with a mony order. So they have my money.

Uhmmmnnn. Sorry about the delay, if this is a serious post. Having a hard time understanding why you are upset because they have a back ordered part and they actually emailed you to let you know that, instead of just letting you wait.

EDIT: just saw your other posts about ordering your system. Can understand the frustration, but it is better to know what's happening. Hopefully the optical drives will come in soon. As others have said, calling AW may give you some peace of mind. They are used to people calling to check on their orders. Good luck.

Are you upset because you think they are trying to install an incorrect optical drive or because the optical drive is on back order? Either way, I would call and speak with someone else for a clarification about the part to ensure you are getting the correct drive. If the part is on back order, then I would ask when they expect it to arrive. If time is an issue, then ordering a computer that has to be built is not a good idea. But since AW has your $, I'd give them a call again and try to get the answers/reassurances you need. Give them a chance - they're a good company.

nomadant, Welcome to the forums.

You can call Alienware and verify your order. I also recommend that you ask to have your order emailed to you so you can further verify that it is correct. Feeling stressed out over little things is all part of waiting for an Alienware system. Everyone wants their system Yesterday and the word 'backorder' is gonna totally mess with your mind, especially if your already half crazy just waiting normally. (half crazy is pretty much normal). start with confirming your order to ease your mind a bit. backorders are not something that Alienware has control over but rest assured that they are on top of it to get your machine to you as quickly as they can.

I did call them and they told me that was a nickname for the part I ordered, but I don't see how. I was wondering if you guys knew if it was a nickname or they were just trying to get me off the phone. The ETA for that part is on the 17th and they say that the sysytem will be shipped on the 24th. I'm mad that there's a delay but when I get my laptop as long as there's nothing wrong with it then waiting was worth it, it would just suck if after all this I get my laptop and it's DOA like I've heard some other people had happen to them. I'm more worried that this is the wrong optical drive, I have my original order saved and when I referred back to it it was different then the one they're telling me about. Maybe someone can clarify for me whether or not these two mean the same.

1. 8X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW / 24X CD-RW Combo w/Software <-----What I ordered

2.8X DVD+/-RW LITE-ON <---What they're telling me is backordered.

Thank you.

So both of those are they same? My part states it's a combo drive and they way they're telling me is like it's just one drive.

Its just one drive that is a CD-RW and DVD-RW.
it burns both CDs and DVDs. (+/-)
"Lite-On" is the Brand name.

If it's one drive then why are they telling me that just the 8x Dual Layer DVD+/-RW is backordered, shouldn't they have said that 8X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW / 24X CD-RW Combo was backordered?

You'll have to excuse me but I'm confused, you have to understand where I'm coming from I just want to make sure what they're saying is backordered is the part I really ordered.

What they're telling you is that your Lite On CD/DVD RW combo drive is on backorder. No need to fret, I'm sure they'll be getting them in soon.

Settle man, the 8x Dual Layer DVD +- is just an abbreviation instead of saying 8X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW / 24X CD-RW Combo, your dvd burner drive will be able to write both dvds and cds. They are not jippin you out of anything. Is that what was confusing you?

Yes, that is what was confusing me, thank you for clarifying the issue. I didn't know a DVD burner could burn CD's too.

Hey no prob man, nowadays its just kind of assumed that a dvd burner can burn cds since dvds are the newer technology.
