Star Wars KOTOR

Thread Starter
Im having a problem running KOTOR. I get this message when I try and pstart the game. "Unable to authenticate orignal disc wihtin time limit"
I called tech support (lucas arts) and they told me this isnt a supported chipset/videocard. I would like to know if anyone has played this game.
Thanks

I've played the game alot recently and have had several crashes as i'm either in the game or exiting.Alien autopsy has sent a message to alienware so i'm waiting to see if i get anything from them. There is a patch that may help at the web-site,but i think the ATI drivers have a problem with the game as you have to turn hardware mouse off or it freezes!!!!Guess we have to wait for ATI to fix it in a driver release??????

Yes! Be sure to patch KOTR before playing with the ATi card. There is a known 9600 bug in the original release.

Mine had the same issues till the patcherooski!

Try using the Omega Drivers....that might help with the ATI compatablity problem

Tried the patch, but still had to turn to software mouse. It fixed that problem but now getting random crashes when i try to leave the game.Apparently you have to turn off autosave and not save over any games!!!!!!!Time will tell??

I seem to be having the same problem as detailed in my "4X DVD+RW Game Authentication/Protection Problem" post. Do you have the DVD+RW? Have you managed to solve this problem yet? I'm thinking the drive might require a firmware upgrade.

I don't have any problems running KOTOR.

It's odd because Halo and NFS Underground loaded fine.

If none of you are aware Bioware is infamous for buggy games which is why the baulders gate and fallout series had a million patches

this is also happening to me with unreal 2003 and magic battlegrounds on my 51m. all other games i play are fine. i gave up w/alienware trying to help me fix these authentication problems. i've reformatted, restored several times, and installed all new drivers, game patches w/them already. it's wierd because i tried setting up virtual drives using clone cd for these games, and the same issue happends!

Question guys...Do you both have the DVD RW drives?? I do, and I sold FFXI to my friend who also has DVD RW drives and it wouldnt work. They had to put all the information on the DVD's so that they could play it....maybe thats a solution...

i have the dvd+r drive. i wonder if this problem is only specific to these drives. the drive also doesn't get recognized after my system wakes up from sleep (on a different thread). what do you mean by putting all info on the dvd? i'm looking for any workarounds right now since i can't find a fix.

yeah, I've got a DVD+RW drive too. I'll give it a try.

The problem is with the firmware on the DVD+RW drives - the drive can't deal with copy protection/authenticating games properly. I've been pestering them and they say that they'll have new firmware ready by the middle of next week.
