Can I upgrade my hard drive more than GW's stated max supported drive?

Hi, everyone--

I have a Gateway 450SX4. It's 3.5 years old, but still going fine. For monetary reasons, I'd like to upgrade the hard drive instead of buying a new machine.

I want to upgrade to a 100GB drive.

The gateway site claims that 60GB is the max hard drive supported. Their upgrade technician/sales person said that a larger drive wouldn't be recognized at all. I asked her if it was because of a BIOS limitation, and she said "yes."

Does anyone know if this is true? Or if there is a way around it?

I hate to pay for a 60GB drive when I can get 100GB, which is what I really want, for only a little more money.

I'd appreciate any help or advice anyone can give me.

Thanks,

Laura

Most laptops will support larger than what is listed for simple reasons that hard drives of >60GB did not exist. If it does not support it, then you will need to use drive overlay software but it will still work fine.
