DVD drive replacement

Thread Starter
i own a HP N5430 laptop and the DVD drive that came with it has been acting up (not reading CD-R's)

i bought 2 different drives on ebay to replace it with. however, neither of them fit. both were advertised as "compatible" with HP notebooks, however, the "faceplate" of the new units either doesn't fit into the computer, or is such a tight fit, that the drive won't open (even with the help of a paperclip...)

i've already looked at trying to take off the face plate of the old oen and putting it on the new one, but the latches/pins on the faceplate don't seem to match...

the new drives are a teac and hitachi

thanks in advance!

i recently bought a gca-4040 drive at ebay..actually same model with my r3000 but the one i got have a different faceplate(hxxxx model). but knowing that they are same make and model with just different faceplate i just take off my old faceplate and switch it with the new drive i got.Now it just fit right. Maybe you can just take off the old faceplate and install it to your new drive.
