Keep or Sell Harddrive?

Alright, So it's pretty obvious to all but few out there that a 4200 RPM harddrive just doesn't cut it that well for gaming these days. I really want to upgrade, but the equivelant 5400 rpm and 7200 rpm laptop drives of 100 gb are very expensive. Would I get any money at all if I tried to sell this harddrive? It is a Fujitsu MHU2100AT. It works fine, aside from being slower then what I want.

Man, it's hard to justify upgrading all this stuff, I just bought a 7800 GTX go and I'm looking at a new processor to pinmod and now this. Oh well, if it gets me another year or so of this laptop it's worth it.

If you are going to upgrade then pop it on eBay, you'll get something for it...

What kind of drives are good for notebooks? Any recommendations? I really want a 100gb 7200 RPM but other then that I'm not very picky. I'm used to looking at maxtor and wd and such drives for the 3.5" drives but I dont have much knowledge on the quality producers of the 2.5" drives

I would buy (in order): Seagate or Hitachi (joint), Samsung, Fujitsu, Toshiba... Erm, who else makes 2.5" drives? Bit limited compared to 3.5".

i'd say stick your 4200 in an external enclosure, that way the slowness wont be so noticeable and you still have a nice, very portable 100gb drive...

It seems like he wants to use the sale of his old drive to help pay for the new one, although having an external drive is very handy and great for backup...

Thanks for the information . I guess Dell shafted me with one of the lesser quality brands. Probobly explains why my comp stutters every now and then. I'll look around on ebay for some of those brands.

EDIT: geelen that is a good idea too, and if i cant get a relatively large amount of cash by selling it I'll probobly do just that. It's speed is fine for me for file moving just not for games atm.

I think that deal was way too hot....seems to be dead

But to stay on topic, I would agree with what others say about just putting the drive in an external enclosure it might be well worth keeping. Only sell it if you have to would be my opinion

plus the chics dig it

but really, its true...2.5" hdds are nice because they require no extra power (other than usb)

I actually ordered 3 of the drives that Mzimm posted a link to but I have a 60 gig 7200 RPM drive I can let you have at a nice price seeing as how you got a card from me.

I personally started with upgrading to a 2.26 ghz processor then went to the 6800 Ultra then a 7200 HD went from 512 to 1 gig then to 2 gigs of ram. then got a 7800 installed

now my battery life is about 2 hours and 15 minutes BUT I am converting my gaming desktop over to a HTPC because I can game on this thing and rival anything short of a desktop running SCSI drives.

most of the upgrades that I did to my 9300 I was able to sell my parts and cover 90% of my cost.

bought my 1.6ghz 400fsb Dothan for $120 and sold my 1.6 553 Dothan for $100, bought a 7200 drive for $70 and sold my 5400 for $55 if you look at the cost of upgrades as long as you flip what you have you are in good shap

this should tell u all you need to know:
http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/11/...ous/page5.html

so today i ordered a 100gb Seagate Momentus drive (7200RPM) and an external USB enclosure for my Hitachi 60gb. total bill was $300'ish shipped.

nice thing about the enclosure is it runs on two USB ports, one for the power and one for transfer, so no power adapter needed.. HUGE plus in my book!

The HDD enclosures with 2 USB connectors are good because some drives require just that little bit more power than one port can supply (especially since some are just short of supplying the full 500mA), you can get away with just the one but having two just makes things a little bit smoother...

I tried ordering there when i saw it on fatwallet saturday but i never got an email confirmation ( Man was that site bogged down). I don't think it went through all though i have an order status number. Besides that though, I probobly want to go right up to a 100gb 7200 rpm, or will a 5400 rpm from a 4200 rpm actually make that much of a difference?
