Hhhhey thats not very nice

Anyways, im heading down to see that guy right after work in about an hour so he can run whatever tests he needs to run. Who knows, maybe he has some smooth tricks up his sleeve and will fix it on the spot. But if he has to order a new one, he will do that and should be here Friday, hopefully...if these toshiba bastards keep their word. And I can get my dad to drop it off earlier that day and get it back the same day after work. Now that would be sweet.

Lets hope when they take it apart, that they dont weaken the plastic and that when its put back together, that its not all of a sudden loose and rattling like previous ones. This all better be worth it. If it wasnt for the sweet price i got it at, I would easily take it back and get an IMAC. I was this close to getting an imac, but frankly since getting the 17 im so in love with it.

I mean if I want, I could easily just pack it up, get my $1350cdn back and get a different brand. But...no 17'' with free extra 512 ram for this price.

also, furthermore, the tech said at the shop that hes seen it where it was the mobo that was causing this. If this is the case with mine, i will sadly bring this back and sacrifice the $400 saving i got on this and get an imac.

Well, you sure as hell got what you paid for. If you put price before all else I can assure you that you and the repair shops are going to know one another very well.

It sounds like you don't even need a notebook in the first place if you're considering an iMac. Do yourself and everyone else a favor, and either get the iMac, or build yourself a desktop.

well, I have nothing against toshibas but I will say the following: there is a KNOWN problem with bad solder and the power jack. My girlfriend had her m 35 x a few months before the round power jack started to act up. You would have to wiggle it to get it to power the notebook. Later you would have to "wedge it" with a pack of index cards to get it to power the notebook. At first I thought my girlfriend had treated it too rough. Later I found out that this has been a continual problem. Amazingly they don't do repairs, they had to replace the ENTIRE motherboard. This took a couple of weeks (close to a month as I recall). Toshiba basically said "tough luck were repairing it though, deal with it". What if they got their only computer taken away for a month (due to "parts back orders"...GEE I WONDER WHY??? ) This one experience and the way toshiba treated her really soured me on toshiba quite a bit.

so to sum up the frequent customer experience....------>
Toshiba corp. takes the money and runs------>

Yes.

Plus if you aren't taking it anywhere, a desktop gives you much better value for your money. If you build your own, you can fix anything that goes wrong with it if you've got the technical prowess.

Or get an iMac. If you're not going to take it anywhere, it's a much better value than an iBook.

You could get an equivalent desktop for about 1/3 of the price of many notebooks (if you built it yourself).

As an owner of a Toshiba, I can honestly say that they make extremely crappy laptops. They are either hit or miss. Getting a crappy laptop that is on sale is never a very bright thing to do. Do yourself a favor, cough up a few more bucks, and buy a quality laptop that won't have you spending hundreds on repairs

You are right, toshiba is hit or miss. Ive gone through so many of them damn things. Half of the opened box returns sitting in the warehouse are mine

Anyways I went to the shop and the tech happened to have another M60 there as well. so he took out that HDD and put it in mine, and the discs ran fine. so obviously its the DVD drive and he ordered me a new one. should have it by thurs or fri and he will install on the spot. And the best thing is he doesnt have to rip apart my unit, the dvdrom just slides out.

So glad nothing with the mobo

Guess just the laser wasnt calibrated properly.

Well Ive heard good reviews about this model. Its still better than a compaq or HP or gateway.

God damn, I really wish toshiba didnt shrink the right shift key and perod key. that to me, is an extremely stupid design flaw. it makes it very wierd to type with. LOL. What they should have done was make the numpad keys smaller. ESPECIALLY NOT THE PERIOD KEY!!!! but ill get used to it. Even though, now when i come to think of it, im sure they had enough room extending the keyboard to the edge of both sides just so there arent any shrunken keys.

The good news is that you might be able to buy a new slim drive however I've heard that Toshiba's don't like some of the drives out there and I know that mine doesn't like the slim drive that I bought for it. Good luck with it, if you have any type of a warrenty just make them replace the drive.

Good luck and I hope it works out.

I agree !!
I think your laser is weak!! For reading DVDs your drive needs more power an precision than a CD !!
I think it is a matter of time, and you cant read CDs too !!

\I just noticed on mine, that it seems to wiggle a bit when inside. So should you say that I should plug/unplug as few times as possible? Im worried it will get worse. But then again my old one did this too.
