omg have you even read this thread in its entirety?? I've tried omega drivers and dell drivers, all newest, used driver cleaner pro etc.

I need to know how to flash back the old bios.

Try setting it to "Do nothing" in power management. That will just make it turn off. I don't think it's your BIOS, or your video card, cause you can do that with my dads 5 year old VAIO laptop. Just set it to do nothing, as that's what it is on mine.

It is on do nothing!

Trust me I'm pretty sure it's my VIDEO BIOS ...the bios on my video card, not the 9300 bios. I flashed to the newer VIDEO BIOS a few days ago when I was trying to solve another problem. Before doing this I saved the old bios trhough ATi Tray Tools. The LCD will shut off if I close the lid before I log into windows after a restart.

Edit, my mistake, the lid shutting off works before EVERY windows logon, not just after fresh new drivers.

Does it shut off if you open the lid slightly and then close it again?

Once it has fully loaded into windows, no. I am able to shut it off but at one point when things keep loading into windows it is no longer responsive. If it catches the moment shut off, it will not come back on again when I open it. If it catches it open at that point, it will not turn off again....until restart.

EDIT: OK. I found EXACTLY what it is, and now I know how I made it work that time when I said I connected it to my TV. Basically it is "ATI video bios poller client". Whenever I log off, it tells me it's not responding. Once that process is stopped, the powerplay AND lid both come back to life!!! Even after I log back in... It seems this new process only comes once after a restart, and needs a new restart to load (it loads once you log in)

This makes me think it's a service...now which one!? I know it's not ATi hotkey poller service b/c that IS needed for the LCD closing and powerplay.

Yes, mine does this also.

ATI Hotkey Poller service might not be set to auto. Check ATI Smart is set to auto too. If you did already, sorry for repeating it.

Yup, both set to automatic. Again, the problem is "ATI video bios poller client"

Well, go back to the orginal BIOS. That should solve all your problems. Also, complain to Dell that the new BIOS causes problems.

I don't know if it's for sure the new bios causing this. I remember I would get this ATI video poller client not responding on my desktop too. But there I didn't have powerplay or the screen closing lol, so I didn't notice these effects. However I'd like to try the old bios to make sure.

HOW do I do it??

Google for it. What is ATI Video Pollwer Client anyways? I have never had that run and have never even heard of it.

I tried googling it but nothing conclusive came up. You usually don't see it running if it doesn't give you problems...

You don't have ATI Hotkey Poller because you are running a nVidia card!

I meant to Google ATI BIOS Flash. http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/...ing/vidcard/34
That is a good site.

That requires a dos flash. Can't I somehow use winflash which I used when I flashed the new one? The new one came all packaged up and ready to flash though, there are a lot more files than the new bios and winflash.exe so I don't know what I need to change to use the old bios .bin

I know I have the same issue. It is set to "do nothing" in power management. I am running 80.40 Drivers. I am also using the A04 Bios. I just figured it was an issue with me alone, and gave up on trying to fix it. I cant think of anything else to do....

Sounds like you have a nVidia card w/ those "80.40" drivers. I have narrowed my problem of the lcd not shutting off to the "ATi video bios poller" because once it is end tasked upon log off, (and then you log back in,) everything works as it should.

I am quite sure this has started ever since I flashed the new video bios for the X300 from dell's site.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to use winflash to flash the old one back??? I ahve a .bin of the old one.
