I have a Dell Latitude C600 notebook. It has a 8mb video card. Can I upgrade the video card to say 16mb or higher, or is the video card on this laptop an intergal part of the motherboard?

Thank you,

You can't upgrade the card. All older laptops have the GPU attached to the motherboard. Unfortunately, upgrading to 16MB isn't going to make much of a difference today either.

nope, you're stuck. besides, even 16 mb is obsolete for a while now. if you need more graphic power, you should look at a new laptop. what are you running that you need more power?

You guys are awesome!!

Thanks for the quick reply. I wanted to run Google Earth, and I can't with 8mb video. I need at least 16mb but if I could upgrade, I would look for as high as possible.

Thanks anyway, I really appreciate your responses. The internet is a good thing....

Cheers

Memory dont mean squat, so just cuz u upgrade ur 8mb to 512 doesnt mean ull get 64 times the performance. Its all in the gpu itself, and urs is prolly crap (no offense) so upping the ram aint gonna do much.

Think about this, a 64mb ati x700 will absolutely destroy a 256mb 7500. And by destroy I mean upwards of 50x or more better performance, yet having a quarter of the mem.

Don't worry about more VRam. You will be able to run Google Earth.

I tried to run Google Earth, and the video display would not work. This from the Google Earth download page:
>>Notebook computers older than 2 years old may not be able to run it.<<
>>Minimum System Configuration
OS: Windows 2000, XP, or Mac OS X (10.4)
CPU: 600MHz
Free Hard Disk Space: 400 MB
System RAM: 128 MB
Video RAM: 16 MB
Screen Resolution: 1024x768, 32-bit color
Internet: 128 Kbps ("broadband")
For better performance: Recommended Configuration<<

I tried it anyway, and it would not display correctly. So I assumed that since I had all the hardware requirements except the video RAM.... that was the cause. This laptop is 4.5 yrs old. PIII 1.0GHz processer, winxp, 512mb ram. Display is 1400x1050 32bit
Suggestions?

What the...Google Earth shouldnt be that much of a resource hog! You should be able to run it just fine...try upgrading the driver for your video card.

...try upgrading the driver for your video card.

Already done a couple of years ago dated nov of 02. Same driver on Dell's website as of yesterday.

I wouldnt really try to do to much with a 8 or 16mb card... Like others said... Its probably time for a new puter... You could order a new computer super cheap that would smoke that 8mb card no doubt... For time per dollar, if you buy a new one rather than researching for a new 16mb card, you will be money ahead.
