My daughter has a Dell inspiron 1000 that starting shutting down spuratically and then more regularly. Ran all kinds of spy/spam ware and norton. It eventually wouldn't get past the dell screen, then it will start with the fan and green light but black screen and then the fan will shut off but the light is still on. I opened it up and found dust and dirt around the heat sink. I also cleaned and put new artic silver thermal compound between the heat sink and unit. It will start up and even run for a time but after some time, shuts off and won't turn back on. The temp of the unit doesn't get past 41. I can't figure what else could be it. I have run out of ideas....anybody have one?
