Buy the 8204 now or wait for new Ferrari?

Just want to see what everyone thinks. Would you buy the 8204 now or wait for a new Ferrari to come out?
I suppose it depends on how pressing your need for a new computer is, as it'll probably be months before we see a new Ferrari.

The Ferrari 4006 was just released. Only differrence is the OS. It's WIN PRO 64. All other specs look the same.

I was going to buy the 4006, but just ordered the 8204. Haven't seen any of the AMD processor oriented products with the advanced feature sets of the Intel based systems.

Actually found a dealer with an Acer TM8204 available for shipping. Should have the computer by Thursday.

I thought the 4006 came with a Turion ML-40 @ 2.2 GHz, and a 120 GB Harddrive?
yes, the 4006 has a faster CPU, more HD space, and a different OS

I have a feeling that the newest Ferrari will have a dual core AMD processor so I honestly think that we'll have to wait for at least summer before we see a new one. If you need a laptop now I really don't think that there is a better laptop for the price than the 8204.

Wait.

Whether it is true or not i don't know... But i was told that the Duo core is 64 bit... however it is the software that is limiting the duo core to 32 bit?!?! don't know if that is in fact the case...
Nope, Centrino Core Duo (Yonah) is 32-bit. The next version of Centrino, Meron, will be 64-bit, and is due in the 2nd half of this year.
the intel core duo, hardwarewise, should be able to support 64bit.

The x1600 is not that much of an upgrade over the X700.

If you need one now obviously get the 8204, but if you can wait then definatly wait for a new Ferrari with next gen Graphics.
actually the x1600 is quite a good deal better than the x700.

I'm personally waiting for the dual core Ferrari and a dual core Merom to compare...I'm personally holding off on the 8204, even though I ordered it like 5 times (and cancelled just as many).

Any upgrade I make from my T43, especially if it's taking over daily duties, is going to have to be a 64 bit machine (as it's replacing my dual Opteron 254 system for my gaming)
id wait. 64bit is worth it for me.
i agree, 64-bit is definitely the way to go, especially if you want to be able to use windows vista. plus, it will prob. be a turion-64 dual core,, and the merom will be out, so the prices will be lower due to the competition. personally, i am an amd fan, so it will be worth the wait.

UT2007 on a dual core turion-64???
- yeah baby!

In theory the Acer 8204 should be upgradeable to a Merom CPU, If Acer updates the Bios to support it, which is likely not the best of odds.

It sounds like Merom has sliped to Q1 of 2007 now as well.

The Socket AM2 info and pics are starting to leak out so it looks like Yamato and Taylor should be here sooner rather than later. Hopefully within the next 1~4 months.

And the X1600 is on average I would say 30% faster than the X700 mobility, in some games like FEAR the difference is vast, the X1600 is also a SM3.0 part, and it has improved video playback quality so it's a very worth while upgrade.

just curious, but why is 64bit such a necessity for you?

p.s. windows vista doesnt require 64bits. you'll be able to run it fine in 32 bit ala XP.

WIndows has said that they are releasing two versions, a 32-bit and a 64-bit, why 64 bit? its ocming this year, why stay with the old stuff? futurre proof and stay ahead!

Im hoping the next Ferrari will have the dual core Turion as well
