Curious what Resolution and graphics are being used by fellow XPS Gen 2 owners with the similar specs as my system.

Specs:

P-M 2ghz
2gig DDR2 RAM
80gig 7200gig
6800 Ultra 256
17" Truelife
Windows XP Pro

Everything maxed. 'nuff said.

1920x1200, every single option maxed. Can you say smooth as silk?
My specs are the same as yours and I run mine at 1600x1200 with everything MAX'd out as well. I would run it at 1920x1200 if I could.

Tommms, any idea why the widescreen resoltions went away? I seem to recall playing at 1920x1200 at one time. Interesting....

I deleted a couple of folders to run a custom built UI. Wonder if that has anything to do with it. These are the folders I removed:
World of Warcraft\Interface
World of Warcraft\WTF
World of Warcraft\WDB

All they do is remember your old config and I'm pretty sure you can delete them whenever you need to make a change to your Interface. Here is a link to the one I'm using right now:

Running a 9300 with a 6800go and 1gb RAM, and i also run everything maxxed at 1280x1024 on an external LCD. I even run the game in maximized "windowed mode" format, and use my 9300 LCD screen for thottbot and IM.

9300 with 6800go overclocked, I run at 1600x1200 2xAA everything else maxed, works great. At 4xAA I can sense some lag, it looks very well at 2x anyway.

XPS2, 6800 Ultra, 60GB 7200RPM, 1.25GB RAM...

1920x1200, all settings highest, runs perfect. I rarely see a blip under 30fps in end-game 40-man instances, and commonly see it around 45-80fps.

Yes, Lagforge will rarely blip under 30fps. You heard me right.

I noticed in areas with people around, other then IF, frames stay at a steady 30 FPS. In Dead Mines, I'll get 60 FPS (the most I will see with the LCD), but it wll drop down to 30FPS where Van Cleef is. I'm guessing its cause of the distance graphics. Which my setting is set in the middle.

Does that sound right? Typical 60 FPS but areas with groups of people 30 FPS.

Maxed out on mine.

the FPS drop with lots of action going on since the system is processing a crapload more particles and such. IIRC.

Maxxed at 1900x1200. I haven't played in a few days though

What servers do you guys play on? I'm on Moonrunner.

People who say there is no frame drops are simply not as susceptible to the drops as others. For example, you can't run the game maxed out with completely fluid framerates. I have the terrain distance turned down to about half, as there's no real visible difference, but the framerate can get bogged down, especially in the Wetlands. Also, in Ironforge with a lot of people running around, the framerate can take a nosedive into the 20s, quite often. You can press CTRL+R to see the frame rate anytime, and you'll see this is true. I run the game at 1920x1200 with everything maxed except terrain distance and AA is completely off. There's a noticeable frame rate loss even with 2xAA on. Again, I will say that no system that I've ever used can run WoW completely smooth, but for the most part, the game does run at 60fps. I choose to have vsync ON in WoW to keep the framerater from going from 100+ frames to 20fps when it drops. That kind of drop is much more noticeable than when it drops from just 60.

Also, everyone on this forum experiences some kind of hard drive caching that makes the framerate go through the floor at times. This is, again, most apparent in Ironforge, especially if you've just loaded the game for the first time. I've got a fast 7200rpm hard drive, and it still caches like a mad-man at times. Again, EVERYONE experiences this. It's all about what you notice or care about...

I'm not saying I don't get FPS drops, it's just still playable.. all the time.

Up til yesterday I played at 1920 x 1200 with all settings maxed out...
but I just got a used 21" crt and some new 3d glasses (see my other thread), and will never go back to the laptop screen unless I've taken my laptop away from my desk.

Not sure if you ever heard about a game called Guild Wars...

www.GuildWars.com

It is great fun, AWESOME graphics, and no monthly fee.

And a new Expansion pack called Factions is coming out.

Sorry I'm too frugal to pay monthly fees.

If you like WOW better that is cool too. Just an FYI. Many ppl havent heard of it, although there are many people playing it.

I played Guild Wars when it first came out. Its a great game, too! I actually think it has a lot of good things going for it, even before mentioning the no monthly fees. Unfortunately, a bunch of my friends got hooked on WoW, so I joined them... and haven't turned on GW for more than an hour since.

GW is beautiful.

WoW is the worst game ever made.

So does that mean you like GuildWars???

BTW I just converted a friend of mine from EverQuest2, it was so easily.

Don't compare GW to WoW. They are two completely different games.. They shouldn't even be in the same genre. GW is fun, and cheaper than WoW, not to mention waay better graphics, but WoW has a massive amount of content, seamless world, regular, huge updates, a massive community, and AMAZING gameplay.

GW is great, and WoW is good. I have both installed, and play both probably an equal amount.
