inspiron 8600:m10 overclocking benchmarks

thought i'd post the first few benchmarks and results for overclocked m10.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSPIRON 8600
pentium m 1.5@1.5ghz(speedswitch activated)512meg ddr333

ati radeon 9600 pro 128meg

windows xp home sp1 +additional available sp2 updates

catalayst 3.10(maximum detail settings. fast writes and side band addressing enabled)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
engine [default]337369382392
memory[default]243(486)277(554) 292(584) 312(624)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
halo time demo 21.62fps25.05fps 26.74fps 28.34fps

3dmark2001se 9649104161071211230

3dmark03 2824301232063512

aquamark3 21360235592447725987

not bad results all in all.
gpu temps measured with fangui peaked at 65 under heavy load.
system has run stabley for 8 days with the 392/312 clocks(with some pretty heavy gaming sessions )
speeds just above these settings caused artifacting. system freezing started occuring when either were raised to 398 /330(660).

sorry the results seem a little difficult to read, page formatting seems not to have been preserved

just curious has anyone overclocked their 600M?...I'd like to try to "tweak" it out a lil but don't want to run into risks of over heating etc. any suggestions dr. jones? haha I feel like the chinese kid from temple of doom...i guess it's b/c i am chinese =P

try powerstrip to overclock and fangui to monitor the temperature of the internal components:memory, gpu, cpu, hd etc.

slowly raise the clock speeds increments of 2 to 3 maybe a bit mroe to start with and the smaller steps as they get hihger.

take a base line temp reading at default clock speeds before and after strenuous use.. try realstormbench 2004 for the cpu, 3dmark series/aquamark/halo timedemos, anything really to stress the gpu/memory.

then you'll have a good idea of the default temp ranges for the system.

overclock and check temps.. watch for increase and graphically watch for artifacting.. you'll kow it when you see it in 3d apps(you'll see white dots generally appearing randomly on screen when rendering, tearing of polygon sides(though this to happens with vsync disabled) at this point youve gone a little to far.. turn back the gpu's mem and core clocks and keep going till you dont see it any more.

hope this helps a little.. dont push it to far to quickly you could damage the thingg..
gotta rush
have fun

koo thanks "Doc-TA Jones"...=P

Do you know if the DIMM and the GPU temp in fangui are switched? Because the only ones that get high in temps on my system after gaming is the DIMM. Gets to about 70 C with it just flat on a desk. others are around 45-50 C.

it is a myth. By far the hottest components of any system is ram. buying the right ram can dramatically reduce heat. if you can buy BGA based ram and or single sided DIMMs (meaning where the ram chips are only on one side of the ram instead of it filling both sides)

Overclocking Rule of thumb is to Jump 5Mhz on Core and Memmory test it thoroughly then if you recieve problems of any kind drop it by 1Mhz and test again. The process is painful but this method ensures the least amount of damage rather than jumping to guess your videocards theoretical limit.

@Dr_Jones

Do you use normal cooling on your 8600?
Does the machine run completely stable?

Thanks!

I live in new york and its freezing after 15 minutes my graphics card locks up on me using 380 core and 300 mem

Hmm,

Under Powerstrip, under Performance Profiles, I enable clock power management but the default speeds is at the top of the bar. I can't seem to move it up any further. any help?

dell 8600, 1.6, 128 mb ati pro turbo, 356 ram, dvd+rw, swxga+, g, 40gig

test done with dell installed software and home xp. i disable everything including norton and wireless/any internet. that fanGUI prog is running

overclocked at 381/300
3dmark03 3247
my GPU temp gets into the mid 90's during its peak while runnning the bench

standard ~240/um ~310
3dmark03 2789

whats a safe opertaing temp for the GPU, the max safe peak?
that first post, i think the GPU and CPU temp is switched.
varies per gpu and many other factors usually 5-10% of original clocks is safe

where did you download catalyst 3.1????????????????

can someone post a link or suggest?
Just get the omega catalyst driver's. It's the best one out right now with integrated overclocking via radlink blah blah blah. It's a great driver. Dell-Machina has it hosted. The link is found on his sticky in the Dell->General section.
