new virus...

Thread Starter
howdy,
I was browsin the web yesterday and then "BAM" my comp says I have infected spyware on my comp. So I run McAfee like 4 times and each it ran the virus that showed said that it couldn't be deleted, cleaned, or quaranteen.... So on the fifth time, McAfee finally deleted it. Now, I get this constant, annoying toolbar (windows) that pops up saying !Your computer is infected ... blah blah blah blah blah..... click this msg to activate spyware something" ..... it pops up nearly every 10 secs. Clicking the msg does nothing either. I've ran mcafee like and I said and ad-aware numerous times coming up w/ nothing? Any ideas? By the way, this is all on my i6000. Also is there any way of getting windows xp discs from dell in case I cant fix this? Like a fresh install w/o the bloatware?
As always, any help will be greatly appreciated!

Get the discs from Dell.

Do a clean install of XP. Then make an image with ghost or acronis. If you ever get infected again, just restore the image in less than 10 minutes. Simple!

Run HiJackThis! and post your log please. I'll take a look and tell you what you can do other than a re-install.

It sounds like SpyAxe. Google for that and you'll find directions on removing it. I haven't tackled this one myself but a coworker of mine did, and had a hell of a time getting rid of it. This one even breaks through Firefox...
