Lowering number of running processes

Thread Starter
Guys,

I'm currently running about 50-54 processes on my 700m right now. I'm running on 2Gig Processor and 1 Gig ram. Let me know what I can do to stop some of my unnecessary crap.

P.S. I'm running Norton Antivirus which I know will get groans from you all. How much will it help to get rid of this and which program do you suggest>>?

I have 74 running.

Enter each of the processes into IE, then decide for yourself.

I like to get down to around 25 processes depending on the machine.

Is there a way to keep these processes from running at startup? I know to check MSCONFIG > Startup...But some of the processes do not show up

Did you look at msconfig to thin it out ?
Go to the start button, then the run button and type MSCONFIG. Now go to the startup tab.

theres a location in the registry where most strartup stuff can be found.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>windows>Current Version>run.

if what you're looking for isnt there, check your list of services.
