BenchMarking configs. Feedback please

Thread Starter
I have learned so much from these forums in such a short time I would like to give back to you all.

I am creating a Benchmark sheet for use when I get my new notebook. What information is critical and what info would we all like to see compared? I am using that for starters some would like to see the stock difference between MCE2k5 and XP Pro for BenchMarks. I also assume that some would want to see the effects of 2gb ram vs the original 512 i ordered.

Is there an interest to see what effect 1 stick of 1gb benches at?

I am also wondering if I should OC the CPU only and bench it then take the CPU back to original and OC the GPU only and bench that way as well... then OC both and check the numbers again.

is this somehting that is of interest.?? I have time at work during the day to run this stuff so it is possible that it wont take an extreme amount of time to accomplish.

I am shooting for something worthy of a sticky. and very informative.
thanks for the feedback. its appreciated.

That's a great idea. If you need any help or 2nd benchmarks for reference I will help out where I can. My time is limited, but still I can spend some time doing benchmarks.

What I'd like to see is the difference between 533MHz RAM and 667MHz RAM. Also the difference between 2x512 and 1x1024 might be interesting.

I also think temperature measurements with and withouh OC / AS5 are interesting.

oh yeah. I will put the Temps on my list.

Thanks for the help. unfortunatley i do not have the 667Mhz ram to config with nor the 2x512mb either since i got the 2x256 option and then got the 2x1gb @533Mhz.

Maybe someone else can hook it up on those so we can consolidat the BM's.

There is plenty of time for this. I am sure I wont have my lappy for another 2 weeks fer shur.

I just wanted to get the BM sheet ready so I didnt forget anything.
proper BM order for efficiancy and such.

According to your sig you got it a few days ago. How do you like it so far?

I was thinking maybe we could test memory bandwith with SiSoft Sandra or a similar tool. The actual memory config (2x256M or 2x1G) shouldn't matter speedwise, should it?

I could run the bench @667Mhz (2x512M), the only difference is my CPU runs at 2.16, but I'm sure other 2.0 owners could run the same test...

If you want me to do any (other) benches to compare, let me know!

I am BM'ing on the 18th. I will be useing several apps including Sandra lite.

I will be testing the original 2x256 config as shipped and the 2x1gig OCZ i have as well.

I am also going to be testing the OUT OF BOX config and a clean MCE as well as XP Pro and mutiple Vid drivers and such.

I am even going to test Vista Beta2 on it. That should be fun!!!!

I dont have my BT installed as of yet, it remains in my Targus bag waiting. I dont have my mouse yet so what is the point eh!! I may install it just for good measure on the BM's though... Feedback? wat ya tink?

I love it so far!!!! The screen is amazing! I do have a little light leakage at the bottom but only annoying at the startup screen or screensaver, otherwise unnoticeable. I will get pics!

I ran into a few issues with the DVD drive though. It seems the drive does not like to remain in windows all the time. It dissappeared on me twice so far! NOWHERE to be found! had to restart to get it back. I also ran into some muti-disk install issues with it. When an install asks for the second disk and you hit OK it will not read it! This happened on Sims2 and on Doom3, I will be testing Adobe CS2 during testing as well!

The palmrest and keyboard are solid with no flex percievable. I really like the keyboard too.

More to follow in my review. Thanks.

Is it possible to OC the CPU on the Inspiron 9400?

Also, it would be really cool if you could benchmark the difference between 1 GB and 2 GB RAM, as Im looking to upgrade my RAM very soon...

My specs look almost as yours, HapiROTT
Only I have the 80Gb 7200rpm, and it's MCE.
But sure I'll change it to XP Prof. I have the license for it.

PcGeek, count me also in. I'll provide you the benchmarks you want.
You should provide a list of all benchmarks you want. Is this already somewhere available.

Should have my lappy next week.

What speed is your RAM? If you got DDR2-667, dual channel won't matter. But if you got DDR2-533, it will be faster using dual channel.

How are you going to go about overclocking the CPU? I used cpucool to do this on my desktop. Is there a similar app that you know of for the e1705/9400?

my ram is in my sig and i have not researched my CPU overclocking at this time. I started the BM's at 7am this morning and just finished mutiple configs of the BASE out of box MCE2k5 with all the crapware.

see the other thread for details!

Thanks to all for all the input.. See my other thread for more BM info.
