Mail-In Service and mailed part

Hi everyone,

Read a few posts on here about people getting replacement screens for their Dell laptop. Must you have them At Home service for them to send you parts to have you install yourself or can you get them to send you parts with only a Mail In warranty? I consider myself fairly computer competent and could probably handle replacing a screen or whatever if need be (I hope it's not necessary though!)

Just wondering what other's experience has been.

If you can spare the time you should send it in to have them do it this way Dell is completely liable for any wrong damages caused to the system. but you can inquire about sending the part in first saying just what you said that you know a thing or two about computer hardware and can install it yourself however you will have to wait just as long for them to ship a part (5-10 Days) but of course you have the leaure of having the system in your possesion while the replacement part is arriving.

During the summer, my ONLY experience with Dell-mail in so far went horribly bad.

My bad LCD was not replaced nor the faulty floppy.

I ended up getting another Dell official on the phone and he had the parts mailed directly to me. I asked if installing them myself would void the warranty and he guaranteed me it would not.

Two days later my laptop was fully functional again.
