Well, how about now we figure out what really is in his system? 333MHz DDR, or 533 MHz DDR2. According to CPU-Z, it is 333 DDR, but it should only take DDR2...

the SPD tab in CPU-z should tell the part number, manufacturer, possible timings and so forth about the RAM chips

Here's the screen from CPU-z. Everytime I try to include it as an embedded image, it doesn't show up. So I have to link to this page:

ben's rep has been reset to 10, play nice kiddies...

and ben, for the love of god, just pull out the memory from each lappy, place it next to each other on a white background, and take a picture of it...

Wow, that's freaky.

I read through this flamefest thread, and the most interesting thing was...CPU-Z is actually calling the SODIMM a 1 Gig DDR module. This intrigued me, so:
I looked it up on Micron's website, and guess what? It is a DDR module. At least it looks like it.

The closest match on the site is the MT16VDDF12864HG-335.

This is a 1 GB 200 pin unbuffered PC2700 DDR SDRAM module...

I'd really like to eyeball this odd RAM.

(EDITED to get rid of the huge number of times I used the word "module"...dunno why I did that)

They make the 1 gig sticks as well, i have an Inspiron 9300/ M170, 2 gigs of PC4200 DDR2 533-Kingston. Well Worth the money, i have the Nvidia 7800 GTX.

I.E. your computer is 533FSB so you cannot use 333 MHZ ram

Just get what your computer uses... the 533mhz and load up to 2 gigs of ram and play BF2 like a happy man should...

thanks

Actually, you're only partially correct. The "533 mhz FSB" is actually a 133 mhz FSB "quad-pumped" to 533. It interfaces with the memory at 133mhz. DDR 333 actually runs at 166 mhz (just transfers data twice for each cycle), so his memory should work fine with it.

Same thing applies to DDR2, except it has a x4 multiplier. So PC 4200 which is rated at 533mhz actually only runs at 133 mhz.

you guys are being really mean to ben. I mean give him a break, he understands wat u guys mean but since he's seeing it with his own eyes that he's using ddr on a laptop that's not suppose to use ddr, u cant expect him to agree with u guys.
