and for host name or IP

do i use the router as host, or the desktop as host?
host name is the name of the computer that you are using to connect to the network. the DOMAIN/WORKGROUP will be the MSHOME. the router is the GATWAY. right click MY COMPUTER choose PROPERTIES and click on COMPUTER NAME.

first setup the USERNAME and PASSWORD on the computer that you want to see and access files in. then go to the network USERNAME and PASSWORD prompt and type in the same USERNAME and PASSWORD you just created. .

i just created a new network and joined it with my other pc. i can access all of my shared files.
this is what i did:

**NOTE: USE THE COMPUTER WHERE YOU HAVE COMPUTER BROWSER service ON to create the network.**

1. use NEW CONNECTION WIZARD to create a network and give it a new name. dont use MSHOME. Make sure that when you create the NETWORK, that you choose THIS COMPUTER CONNECTS TO THE INTERNET VIA A GATEWAY/ROUTER
2 go to LAPPY and NEW CONNECTION WIZARD and choose SETUP A SMALL HOME OFFICE...
3. go through the steps to turn on FILE SHARING on both PC's.
Make sure that when you create the NETWORK and later JOIN the network, that you choose THIS COMPUTER CONNECTS TO THE INTERNET VIA A ROUTER; also known as the GATEWAY to the internet.
4.Reboot when you're prompted to reboot and check it out. RIGHT CLICK sTART and choose EXPLORE. Click on DESKTOP. Click on MY NETWORK PLACES and get to the other computer from there.
2.

you want to create the network first.
do this on the pc with COMPUTER BROWSER service turned on.
use NEW CONNECTION WIZARD to create the network and choose: SET UP A SMALL HOME OFFICE NETWORK.
choose THIS COMPUTER CONNECTS TO THE INTRNET THROUGH A GATEWAY.
go through the FILE SHARING setup to turn it on.
when prompted to give the new network a name choose a name other than what you have now.
REBOOT the pc when prompted.

go to the other computer.
choose NEW CONNECTION WIZARD.
choose SETUP A SMALL HOME OFFICE.. remember that you created the network using the pc with COMPUTER BROWSER on. so now you want to joing this new network using the other pc.
choose THIS COMPUTER CONNECTS TO THE INTERNET VIA A GATEWAY.
go through the file sharing steps to turn it on.
REBOOT the pc when prompted.
