5400 RPM Vs 7200 RPM - Page 2

i remember the first time i ever got a 7200rpm drive for my desktop way back when...it was a HUGE jump from 5400 to 7200 there.

I just sold my desktop that had a RAID 0 with 2 Raptors...pretty sweet...the fastest thing I could get on a laptop was a 7200 drive...so far I am not disappointed with the HD speed, except in multitasking scenarios...can't imagine working with anything slower...7200 is definitely the way to go if you can afford it.

Won't work in a laptop...these are server hard drives. But a 10K notebook drive is bound to happen eventually.

Obviuosly you can't read, I clearly said for the Game BF2, and look I'm being backed up by the other BF2 players in here about how much better the 54,000 rpm drives are as compared to the 72,000. Now maybe you don't value Load times, but as a BF2 player, with Capture the Flag, Load times are everything the first 30 seonds- 1 min. Are Crucial in BF2 games, you can almost tell whose going to win by looking at what happens in the first 30 seconds. Flag, Vehicles, EVERYTHING is race in the begining. Poor Loki???? Like I said how about you actually try out a 72,000 rpm harddrive.

And last, I've done pretty much every upgrade possible at this point, And I'm telling you right now getting the 7k100 harddrive is more significant then getting a processor pin mod. You're going to see more of an effect, if you are a GAMER.

Just do what I do, ignore boo boo. I don't think he's ever contributed anything postive to a discussion... ever.

Load times are very significant in BF2 pubs, and a better hard drive was a better upgrade in your case, but for someone like myself that plays CS:S where in-game, the HD speed doesn't really matter too much, a processor upgrade would probably be more important to see a performace boost.

Anyone know where the cheapest place is to get a Hitachi 7k100 7200rpm SATA model? I had the PATA model earlier in an XPS Gen 2 but when i bought my new 9300 i had to sell it because i now have a SATA interface. Right now i have a Fujitsu 5400rpm SATA w/ NCQ and it seems like a pretty nice drive but it definitely doesn't seem to load as fast and run applications as quickly as my 7k100 did but maybe its a placebo effect .
