Ghost 10/ True Image 9 and the hidden Dell restore Partition

Thread Starter
Hi,

does anyone know if the current versions of backup software like TrueImage 9.0 and Ghost 10 can see and backup the hidden Dell restore Partition? I had read that True-Image 8 was the only one that could still see the hidden partition since Ghost 9 came out ...

I want to do do a back-up of the restore partition, and a backup of all 55Gb on my hard drive seperately...once the rest of the games are installed on it

thanks

Philip

Do you mean you would like to backup your OS image to the hidden partition when it is just how you want it to be? Me too!

If you are using a product like TrueImage why even bother with the ablity to save off DELL's recovery partition? Simply create an image after your reformat and reinstallation of Windows, drivers, and utilities. Then you can always revert back to the clean configuration.

With that being said I don't see why TrueImage or Ghost would not be able to see DELL's restore partition. In fact I believe DELL used Norton Ghost to create it (and some subset of Norton Ghost probably exists on DELL's notebook to facilitate the restore process - at least if you keep the restore partition).

Comes in handy when you want to sell the laptop.

On the other hand deadstone....if you are backing up the complete disk, it should be no problem with either tool.

That is true. However to me reverting to a clean Windows configuraiton with approriate Windows updates applied, with updated DELL drivers, etc. would be just as good, if not better, for the new owner. Just make sure an image is saved before adding your own applicaiton software and data. I now take images at different points in the lifetime of my notebook so I have multiple possible restore configurations. Now when I go to sell it I can revert it back to the earliest configuration.
