Hey guys,
i'm been wondering to myself why the hell google uses its stupid .gvi format. I need two of the videos for a school project that I'm doing on powerpoint but .gvi isn't supported. what I need is to have these two movies converted so that they can play on Windows media player. Does anyone know how to go about doing that.

These are the urls of the two movies:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...00224&q=rwanda
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...257&q=survivor

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated guys.

Download it as iPod or PSP Video. You can then convert it to .WMV, (I don't know how) but go to videohelp.com and they'll tell ya.

Just tried that.

A friend of mine has a program that will record whatever video/audio your PC is outputing into a file that plays in WMP. Not sure what what program it is...

Windows Media Encoder might do it.

d00d. make sure your windows options are set to display the 3 letter extension, otherwise, if you try to rename it, it will not work.

...or change it in the properties box...

I downloaded a program called RAD video tools. It converts the file and lets if play on Windows media player, but it makes the file go from a size of 15.mb to 1.8gb What the hell is the reason for that?

would you mind walking me through that? I don't really know what you're talking about.

Just now tried it and it worked great!

As for making sure you can see extensions like Gatz said, open an Explorer window, go to Tools, then Folder Options... click on View, then scroll down and de-select Hide Extensions for Known File Types. IMO, that should not be enabled by default, but that's just me. Then you can change your file name (which ends in .gvi) to .avi and it should work just fine. I used Media Player Classic to play the file after renaming the extension and had no problem whatsoever playing it. Google Video Player not required.
