Dell Inspiron 630m - Display

Hello everyone,

I received my Dell 630m (my first notebook actually) a few days ago. I'm quite happy with it, except for a small annoyance on the display.

Here you can see it: display

What you see there is just notepad.exe with the default font (Lucida Console, 10pt).

Looks like someone sneezed on the display during production.

The "dot" can always be seen, also when the notebook is turned off.

Comments, suggestions are welcome.

Could you try taking a screen cap so we can get a proper look at it.

Take a 'print screen'.

This way we could see where the problem lies.

If that mark shows up after the print screen it means its somthing in the lcd, if it dosent show it means its on front of the lcd but behind the screen - if you know what i mean?

Press 'Print Screen' and 'Alt' on the keyboard. Then open windows paint, select edit and paste. Save as jpeg and upload the picture to imageshack and post the link it gives you here.

the latter appears to be the case. here's a screenshot. the spot shows up inside the box i painted in notepad (of course it's much smaller than the box.. about 3 pixels wide and 2-3 pixels high).

I would say your issue is a hardware issue with the panel. "ALT + Print screen" will not capture an LCD problem, it will generaly only capture software issues.

In the first picture you posted it looks like a what would happen if too much pressure was applied to the rear of the LCD panel. This should not happen and I would recommend calling Dell for a replacment LCD.

...

Yes, it's quite simple - tft is defective ( backlight or/and reflection layer ), just let DELL replace your lcd immediately !

funny story

i called dell up and told them about the problem. they wanted to see pictures, so i showed them. a day later a dell technician called me and said that there's no problem. quote "it's working as designed". that got me in a mild rage, and miraculosly (after he spoke with his colleagues again) he changed his mind and said that the display would be replaced.

a guy from customer service told me they would send me a new display and i should wait for further instructions. a couple hours later the same guy called me again and said they would replace the complete notebook. he ordered a new one to be assembled and shipped to me and i should send the other one in. LOL

sure enough i agreed. let's see how the new one will work out.
